The Australian Sex Party set to launch

I like their platform and I would vote for them. The Sex Party just doesn't sound right though, maybe the Love Party would be better. Are there any Aussies on the board that want to run for office?

It's too bad Paris Hilton can't run for office down under. Maybe she can start this political party in the United States.

I think they need a few more facets than just.. pro-sex. I'm sure they should be concerned about the economy and such...

Aye. While I agree with most of what the party advocates, I'm not sure its enough to base a party platform on. Then again, I'm so inundated by American politics, I'm sure I'm looking at this through a biased lens.

although i'd lead it, id probably vote for someone else though. couldnt possibly take these guys seriously with a name like that and policies to match.

Actually, the internet filter *is* a big issue. The government are talking about a mandatory filter of certain content and an opt-out filter for other things. Most experts are suggesting that this will slow down our already slow internet + block content with false positives. Dlish was worried about losing his tfp where he is now, but it becomes quite a possibility in Australia if this filter is introduced. The government is asking ISPs to take part in a trial so they can see the viability. Hopefully, it will be atrociously slow, badly implemented and ultimately canned.

You know, if I were getting sex on a regular basis, I could care less about the economy. :)

I know the internet filter is a big issue. Hopefully it will spur the development of a Linux live CD that will encrypt all of your internet traffic through a foreign proxy server. Don't worry about it too much, they try and stop things and it just makes it harder on them in the end.

The internet filter might not be such a bad thing, but it really will depend on how it's implemented. I think it'd be safe to say that a large percentage of the public would be silently outraged if their favourite TGP or Torrent site was banned, but I'm not sure that's what will be targeted.

There is a lot of material out there on the net that should be banned. Kiddie porn and rape are at the top of that list, and as long as false positives aren't generated too often, I'm more than happy to have my internet filtered.

Not considering the political side of it though, technically it'd be a nightmare to introduce any kind of country-wide filtering system. It would have to be on an ISP-by-ISP basis, and the processing power required by heuristic analysis of all information passing through any gateway would be immense. Most ISPs have enough trouble filtering spam, so checking every HTTP request alone would be an incredible undertaking. And that'd still leave the P2P traffic which accounts for the largest share of bandwidth by far, and is more often than not encrypted anyway.

Hmm I know a few people who are going to the Sexpo - might have to ask them about this.

I think this party has alot of good ideas but I would want more details about their actual policies in regards to alot of other things before I could bring myself to support them. I do wonder whether their party name is going to be "the sex party" though, seems somewhat doubtful.

Many areas of Aus are very backwards in their approach to sex (Perth being the worst offender city wise) so some forwards steps in regards to the public acknowledgement of sex would be great.

Also education as to what exatly ir rape and what is not being included in generalsex education would be good - recent survey here of teen males showed that over 65% of them thought it was ok to "force" a girl to have sex. That's higher then the percentage that thought it was ok to physically abuse a partner. I think the inclusion of rape in physical abuse and a correlation being made between the two would obviously be good for Australian teen males.

Then there's the fact that over 20% of Australian teens are apparently not even getting a birds and bees talk from their parents and are receiving insuffucuent information about STI's.

Like I said I'll be interested to see how sucessful this party is and their approach to non sexual issues.

Censorship has no place in a free society. Here in Sweden we have a child porn filter which I'm against. Now let me make it perfectly clear that I am not in favor of child porn. Like any sane person I find it repulsive, but censorship is just not right. Blocking these sites will not stop child porn. It will just hide it and we can all pretend we've done something good.
This filter is also ridiculously simple to get through. Just use a DNS server outside of Sweden and you can surf to whatever site you want.

The right thing IMHO is to find the people responsible for producing/hosting things like child porn and throw them in jail for life, not trying to censor the internet.


Oh, and a sex party, awesome.

To be honest... I'm not sure what they are proposing. I find it hard to get too worried. If anything major disappears then the blockage will be reversed soon enough.

And if it people from movies at maximum speed from OS - I won't be shedding many tears over that either.
