Ohio: Called for Obama by Fox and MSNBC after PA goes with Obama.
Game over man! Game over!
(isn't it?) |
It is if Florida goes Obama (and it probably will). Florida = 27, California = 55.
California: we've got a shitload of Americans. |
Gotta love the media..."2% of the votes have been counted and we have a winner...."
Besides the Truman upset way back when, the media a few years back had declared Jim McGreevey the next NJ governor....he wasn't. At that time, Christy Whitman had won. McGreevey got it the next time tho. |
the west coast states, with new mexico - which has also been called - and that's that.
Do you see McCain winning any west coast state? There we go ladies and gentlemen, that's the winner. Oh, I think Florida, NC, Virginia and Indiana are going for Obama. Honestly.! I hate being this much of a junky to the spectacle. |
it doesn't matter which way Florida goes, the only thing holding this back is the fact that reporters aren't going to call it until the polls close.
but it really is over...now to the important elections: senators! |
America's turning blue....
|
WOOOOOOOOO
HOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm calling it! |
Looks pretty done and dusted - unless no one shows up to vote on the west coast, can't see how McCain can win.
|
I believe I beat you to it.

I won't believe it until I see it.

I'm very proud of my state... YAY Ohio! :)

I remember Florida in 2000. Until it is a mathematical impossibility with the gap in between them greater than the number of ballots left, I don't believe it.
|
I raise my glass ehrm CUP of tea...a toast.
"To our new President~ Barack Obama!! Long may he live!" (maybe I should get something stronger to drink... something a bit more celebratory) |
think of this - how many people will be convinced Obama is not a muslim, different, socialist extremist after 4 years in office?
Even Texas isn't too far this time... What about next? |

i'm not even slightly drunk and I can't manage to post the frickin picture...drat. thank god that will all change once Barack takes office!
|
Based on my math, it's won for Obama. Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC have Obama with 207 electoral votes. If you give him California, Oregon, and Washington, he's won--55+7+11=73 electoral votes, and he's obviously going to carry these states.
|
They just called VA for Obama
Drink! (Oops wrong thread) |
Who called VA for Obama... CNN hasn't yet.

Unless someone fucked up a lot, it's over and done. Happened faster than I'd expected.
|
McCain called Obama and conceded (then again, Bush lol).
|
They gotta do away with this electoral shit...how do you take more states and lose??
|
Obama 29 states, McCain 22 with 3 still in toss up.
or are you not counting commonwealths? |

This is what's wrong with these newscasts. They dont' WAIT, they speculate for 12 hours. |
One thing to mention is that even in Florida and Ohio there are still probably three million ballots to be counted, and both races are within 100-150 thousand votes.
It's probably over...probably  |

this is fantastic. I'm so happy that my kids will grow up in a country where the idea of a Black President is not extraordinary

To those of you in the U.S. on this board, I first hope you voted. Second, I want you to know you
reputation around the world has just gone up at least 10%. You know one reason why the rest of the world cares so much (Brits like Tisonlyi, Daniel,:mapleleaf:'s like me)? It because your Gov't has been perceived as bullies around the world for the last 8 years. Everyone is wary of a bully. Those of you who didn't vote for him, I'm cool with that, that's why it's called Democracy. Counting down to the first spurious attacks on Obama's Presidency starting now: 5,4,3,2,............ |

Electoral stuff, fairly ok. Democrat winning is ok, right? ;) |

Just a side note of how the media plays: I totally understand that this is truly history, that a man who is half black, half white, became the president. What I don't like is the media's constant use of "African-American" because I can guarandamntee that, while they continue to hyphenate, they will also keep espousing the "coming together" of American people. It all reminds me of the "one drop rule" and it's covertly racist in my mind. If we are really supposed to "come together", let's stop with the drop and get down to business. For the next four years, his color and background will overshadow everything and the media will feed it to us. /end cynicism |

We would have to put ourselves in the skin of a Black American (even "one drop") to fully understand the impact in the Black community. The country should celebrate this historic moment....but in short order, the press will move on beyond the issue of Obama's race....the vast majority of American will move on beyond the issue of Obama' race... the Black community will move on beyond the celebration of something many thought they would never see in their lifetime. The focus will be on attempting to solve the enormous problems we face as a nation....hopefully in a way that attempts to bring people together. Will race be an issue? Only in the sense that Obama is in a unique (and most powerful) position to provide the opportunity for a national dialogue to address the racial divide in this country that still exists in many respects. Will Obama's color and background "overshadow everything" for the next four years? Hardly.....unless some cynics chose to make it so in a less than honest manner. |
I don't see why you're "troubled". Truth is that thru media feed, it gets almost impossible to see beyond skin color. History, of course, and maybe that's what troubles me-it should be a matter of course, not a prominent factor. *shrug* Oh well, sometimes I have to hear it being said before I realize someone is black, so to me this isn't as big a deal as it's being made, but I get it.
When Carter was elected, he was because no one wanted anything to do with the Nixon years, so we "wiped the slate clean". Man, did that GA. boy fuck up...and when he did, it was blamed on his "peanut farmer" background, his inexperience, his roots. Time will tell if we're repeating ourselves now. |
How do you take more states and not win? So every state should have an equal vote?
Wow. That would create rebellion. I don't think New York and California would sit tight with Alaska and Nebraska cancelling out their votes. Alaska already gets two senators (one officially corrupt and still winning). They should be damn happy we send them checks every year to rape their state. |
