Net Neutrality and the Candidates
Is Net Neutrality an issue to you when considering your candidates?
net neutrality: the principle that the internet should not distinguish or differentiate between types of data carried over it If you're unfamiliar with it, check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_neutrality. I found Obama's stance on the issue, but I'm having a hard time finding a solid "technology" stance from any of the other candidates. For me, Net Neutrality (as well as a very good understanding of MODERN technology) is a top 5 issue for me. I don't want another President who doesn't know "the Google" from a hole in the ground. I want a President who can make decisions regarding technology based on personal knowledge, rather than the biased fear provided to him by advisers and senior members of Congress. How important is it for you? |
It's pretty important to me. Without the internet, my ability to access reliable news and information would be severely limited.
Hillary actually cosponsored a net neutrality law, but she could change on the issue in her attempt to be the centrist candidate. McCain's view on net neutrality is simple: Fishermen should all get nets otherwise where would we get fish? What's the internet? |
It is important to me, and Obama's clear and well-thought-out stance on this and other technology issues are one of the reasons I support him over Hillary.

What Techies Need to Know About Barack Obama
xkcd's endorsement of Barack Obama The US Pirate Party endorses Barack Obama [pdf] Torrentfreak reports on the US Pirate Party endorsement Lawrence Lessig comes out in support of Barack Obama - back in November. I, too, feel that tech issues are important, and it is another reason I support Obama. And it goes beyond net neutraility: Obama is a great candidate for all kinds of technology-related issues. A huge one for me is his interest in using technology to make government more open. It's linked in the Lessig endorsement, but Obama's technology document [pdf] is a good read for anyone who cares about such issues. |
I'm highly impressed that Obama has made an unambiguous statement on the matter. I'm also impressed that (judging by the further reading helpfully provided by SecretMethod70) he appears to have a very clear understanding on exactly what the issue is.
If I were American I would be voting for this man. |
Psst... comon down. I won't tell anyone.
