Thats my boy

I voted for this guy....and will do so again. Almost brings a tear to my eye.

WASHINGTON -- Days before filing for re-election, Rep. John Yarmuth is giving away money. His own.

In fact, everything the government paid the 3rd District Democrat for last year's work is going to go to 38 Louisville-area community groups, he said yesterday. That comes to a bit more than $120,000 in after-tax income.

"It's something I promised to do during the (2006) campaign," Yarmuth said in an interview. "And I truly value the notion of public service. I'm in the fortunate enough position that I don't need the salary."

That's one that admits he doesn't need that government check....doubt the idea will rub off on many other members of Congress, though, although I have no doubt that many would make empty promises to do so to garner votes.

Yea, I'm jaded....

John is a stand up guy. This is truly rare behavior by politicians. I didn't always agree with his editorial positions in LEO (great local btw), but I have always admired his honesty and integrity. I'd vote for him again if I could.

I'm from St. Matthews... now in J-Town.

I agree that a few of his positions lean away from mine...but you always KNOW what hes gonna do, and that, in my book is worth a vote.

It is unusual for millionaire polititians to give anything back, even those like Yarmuth who make over a million dollars a year income from other sources. I think there are a few who even refuse their great health care coverage until all citizens are covered as well.

Thanks for the article. It was refreshing to read. In these times I would even be impressed with someone that doesnt enter office with a list of personal and special interests their policies protect and support.
