I can't seem to bring myself to do it. I think that they should become more effective at persuading people and have ideas that are what the people think.

When you put a lot of money into the race, the politicians can start to tell the people what to think and flood the airwaves with their commercials. Then they will have to feel some responsibility to give the financial supporters something if they get into office.

I just did for the first time this campaign. $700 to ron paul which is a lot of money for me. It's amazing what he's been able to achieve so far with so little money in comparison to the establishment candidates.

2004 was the first time that I both donated money and volunteered my time to a campaign. I feel like the volunteering was a better investment. Granted, candidates need money to compete, it's just that compared to the limited amount I have to donate, my time and effort has a lot more value.

I've given often to local races (sheriff, prosecuting attorney, judges, circuit clerks) and a few times to state races like governor or representative. I've known the candidate each time, though, so I don't know that I've ever contributed to a stranger.
