Very cool shots. Had one of these on the roof of the minivan the other day as we were packing the family in to head out. I grabbed my son and picked him up so he could for sure see him. He then asked me if he could fly as we were driving out of the driveway. I said, "sure he can" and my wife just glanced out of the corner of her eyes at me from the passenger seat and mouthed (where my son couldn't see her), "can they?" To which I replied, <shrug> "beats me. hope so." *hits gas*.
Great close-ups on him/her. They definitely have a cool insect factor and creepy insect factor all rolled into one package. |

Great shots! I love praying mantises (or however they are pluralized)...they are definitely one of the neatest insects out there. And..they can fly ;) I've seen one do it before.

Yikes! I hate those bugs. I found one in the kitchen when I was 8 and was very frightened because it was huge and I had no idea what it was. Since I was so traumatized, I have never been a fan, but those are some good shots, especially the last one!

I had to come back and comment in this thread because I found the skin for a praying mantis on my shoe last weekend. I went out on my deck to read and had kicked off my sandals while I was doing so. When I went to put them back on, sitting on top of them was the "shell" from the praying mantis. Just like a snake sheds its skin, so do praying matisessesss (yah, whatever). It surprised me. I guess I never really realized they did that. I took a picture of it, and I'll post it when I finally get it onto my computer.
