WTF did they do to my cat?!?!

My old ass cat, Elliot, developed some severely matted hair around his hind quarters, so we sent him to the local groomers to get his matted hair trimmed off.

They did a little more than I expected.

A poodle cut? C'mon, not cool.

His self esteem's at rock bottom.

timalkin 06-20-2005 04:03 PM

Dude, that poor cat. He just looks depressed, with his head down in every picture. At least it will grow back.

maleficent 06-20-2005 04:06 PM

ooooooh... the poor kitty.... tell him he looks like he has been working out... and how all the girl kitties will say how buff he looks...

Poor kitty -- that's just so wrong.... :(

/me is so sorry that she's laughing at the poor kitty...

That is the cutest picture though.. still the exploring kitty...

hambone 06-20-2005 04:07 PM

My wife's mom cuts her cats like that when they get too hairy....so weird

kramus 06-20-2005 04:09 PM

At least it's a nice, even cut :) When I was young we adopted a cat that had been abandoned up by the cottage in the Haliburton Highlands of Ontario - a beautiful longhaired persian. Unfortunately her hair was so badly snarled that the solid lumps were actually pulling up her flesh in places - truly a horrible state for such a fine animal to be in. So the vet cut through the lumps and shaved the areas down to the skin. Cinnamon wound up with sort of a Tottenhot effect, or something you'd see on a mutant cow - long white fur in areas and raw pink skin in others, all random around her body. She had issues with that look for a while.

K-Wise 06-20-2005 04:17 PM

OMG thats adorable  Ahaha your cat is too cute man. Hair or no hair.

Asta!!

Lead543 06-20-2005 05:19 PM

Awwwwwwe at least he looks cute. He was gorgeous before and now he's...cute.

*runs off giggling*

K-Wise 06-20-2005 05:22 PM

Hey what kinda cat is that by the way?

Asta!!

raeanna74 06-20-2005 05:47 PM

My parents have a Tortoise Shell Persian that has long hair like yours. They end up shaving it almost every summer because the heat makes her miserable. Since they live in Wisconsin and are penny pinchers they can't bring themselves to install airconditioning. Thing is they don't do the poodle cut, they shave her so she looks a little like a lion. With her black and orange fur it doesn't look so wierd. She is so much happier and more comfortable when she's shaved. She will actually lie there and let you shave her, except when you get near her hind end but, can you blame her?

Still that is hilarious. Sad dejected kitty.

cj2112 06-20-2005 05:51 PM

that is the funniest thing I've seen all day! your cat rocks!

bernadette 06-20-2005 06:04 PM

awww poor Elliot :(

get a rake (shredding blade) - best & easiest way to keep long haired critters matte free & cuts down on indoor shedding. i've used this on dogs, cats & even a rabbit! i'll never use a regular pet brush again.

look at your local pet store for something like this:
http://petco.com/product_info.asp?fa...edding+Blades#

ps. your cat is just gorgeous in those first two pics!!! looks like a model for "fancy feast" cat food! haha
sorry to say, but he looks silly in the after the hair cut pics...

get the blade. a minimum of once a week brushing should keep him in check. :)

He's a silver-shaded persian. All of his brothers had those flat faces, he was the runt of the litter and the only one who didn't have a flat face. We named him Elliot cause all of his brothers and sisters looked like E.T.

Here's a few more...I'm sending them to my brother, might as well post them here.

Here's another before picture, but it's just his head, so largely the same.

http://home.mchsi.com/~determann/Picture_004_copy.jpg

And a few more new ones.

maleficent 06-20-2005 07:14 PM

he's got the prettiest face... but boy is that one dejected pussy cat... :( He needs some affection and an ego boost -- any girl kitties around that can flirt with him?

And here i only thought human men had issues wiht losing theirhair...

feelgood 06-20-2005 07:22 PM

Give me a name and address and I'll make sure the groomer gets the same treatment ;)

DennisMenace 06-20-2005 09:36 PM

If his fur was matted real bad the groomer probably had to cut it pretty short. Then they had to make the rest of it match.

I had a long haired cat that lived to be 17 years old. In his later years, he wouldn't groom himself and his fur would occaisionally mat all the way to the skin. The vet would buzz them off. A few bald spots didn't bother me, but a groomer would have had a tuff time with it.

K-Wise 06-20-2005 09:41 PM

Oh man. I'm in "Awwww" overload right now lol. That little guy is just so damn adorable.

Asta!!

doodlebird 06-20-2005 10:01 PM

if he needs a confidence boost, tell him he looks like a lion.
if that doesn't work,
tell him toy companies keep calling
about getting a bobblehead doll deal....
and lots of treats.

nice pics.

iktoweya 06-20-2005 10:15 PM

FngKestrel 06-20-2005 11:59 PM

Poor fella had his pride stripped away from him. In the summer we trim the hair on our Border Collie so she doesn't get so hot; however, we are always careful not to trim the very long fur on her tail, becaue it seems to be a source of pride for her. Perhaps Elliot feels similar about his coat.

Nancy 06-21-2005 12:51 AM

His head looks too big compared to his body now

Don't tell him I said that!

MikeyChalupa 06-21-2005 03:49 AM

Mr. Tinkles!

I've seen Persians shaved that way for the reasons others have stated, if it's just too damn hot they shear them completely. It grows back fast, He'll be back to normal in 2-3 months.

settie 06-21-2005 07:23 AM

awwwww! *giggles* Elliot is such a cute cat, with or without the hair.

True - Probably even faster. My parents Persian started to look furry once again in barely weeks. Plus you'll get used to the look quickly and it won't look so odd for you.
