Some miscellaneous shots of the sea during winter:

From a boat on a trip from Helsinki to Stockholm, right after leaving Helsinki:

These walls belong to an 250 year old sea fortress, Suomenlinna, built to protect Helsinki.

A few weeks after those photos were taken I had the chance to go for a short flight on a beautiful winter day:

Downtown Helsinki

The sea lane towards Tallinn and Stockholm

Awesome pictures, it's cool to see pictures of a place I've never seen before. I love the first one from the plane with the boat going through the icey sea.

Incredible. Is that the same route I would have taken when I was on the Silia line to Stockholm?

Yes. I used Silja Line myself.

Also, if there's less than, say, 5 years since your trip, there's a 50% chance that the white boat visible in the "Downtown Helsinki" shot is the one you used. Here's a detail of the photograph. The two Silja Line ships currently sailing between Helsinki and Stockholm are identical.

That first photo reminded me of some I took of the salt flats in Death Valley, California.

Beautiful....I think I shall have to try and visit there sometime, but perhaps not in the winter!

That second shot is awesome. The weak sunlight reflected in the little bit of water, just great.
