ultra_agent9 07-07-2004 10:17 AM

Hey beautiful night shot! What was wrong with the full picture that you had to cover with a top and bottom black border? I'm dying to see the full pic!

Shpoop 07-07-2004 02:57 PM

There was nothing "wrong" with the original - apart from the huge about of stone in the foreground - I had to rest the camera on a bridge compensate for any blurring at long exposure. When I saw the picture - it wasn't quite what I wanted, so I croped it till it was....
anyway - the original - as requested

I also took as zoomed in version - that although it works well, and the bridge is given the attention it deserves - I just didn't think it captured the mood as well. Maybe it was the lack of sky?

I really like the first one with the black bars. Something about the black sets the mood for it being a night-time shot and adds great contrast to the blues in the sky and the gold in the lamps. It's amazing how sometimes we can get a great picture out of a decent photograph. Digital is great.

Thanks for sharing!

/scrolling back up to admire the first photo some more

I totally understand, thank God for the crop tool. I use it all the time...

my first thought on seeing the first pic - ' wow, widescreen!'

Great pictures! I love night shots and city shots. The dark blue sky in the first shot really adds to the picture.

I've never visited Amsterdam, but it's on my list of cities to visit. I love european cities and these pictures make me want to go visit one!

That's fantastic - really, stunning.

Would there be a chance at getting a higher-rez version? I'd love to use this as my desktop background. :)

cheers,

i totally love what you did with blue sky in the cropped version. wicked intense color contrast.

but i think i like the uncropped view, because in the cropped version i was thinking "what a shame those light reflections in the water are cut off like that."

seriously, (from an extreme amateur point of view here), i don't mind the stone wall in the uncropped version. it only lends perspective, besides allowing the fabulous full reflections of those lights on the water.

overall, i think there's a better balance in the uncropped one.
i'd sure love to see the uncropped one with the wonderful saturated colors of your cropped rendition.

it's unfortunate that in the original that blockish thing on the right with the poster on it is leading the eye off to the right, but if you'd crop it out on the right edge, then you'd lose that wonderful foreground streetlight.

after too any words... thanks for sharing that lovely scene.
your pics makes me want to be there right now!

beautiful shots...and good crop

however I would take the black bars down half the size because it minimizes the image.

I really love that photo! Great how you were able to capture that fantastic blue evening sky...

Scheme 07-13-2004 04:38 AM

that's a great shot, since blue is the opposite to reddy/goldish colour it looks really beautiful

good work pal
