Photo Challenge: People
Post your portraits!
Use your lover, neighbors, co-workers or total strangers as subjects. The challenge is purposefully open-ended so that everyone can contribute. It doesn't matter what sort of camera you use or the extent of your technical skill - just attempt to tell a story and post your results. It could be a story about someone's beauty, the way they make you feel, their process or completion of a task, someone hamming it up or their complete obliviousness to the camera. It can even be a self-portrait. The main goal is to keep the images evocative and get shooting. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3157/...afff796b49.jpg (keep the images recent and as always, 18+) |

Hilarious way to kick it off noodle!!
Great shots as always mm. I especially loved the shot of Jesus at the railroad crossing and your shots of people in profile and from behind. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3158/...1273ee05_b.jpg Perfectly framed and very evocative. |
Great shots everyone... I really need to find time to take more photos.
|
some historic pics MM.

Thank you, folks. It was one of the best days I had had in a long while. A happy day. Topped only by election day. :)

This person moved out of my house last weekend. Even though she wasn't home much of the time anyway, looking at this photo this morning still makes me feel sad. Or maybe I'm just feeling sad anyway and I love her. I remember the day I took this picture...we had fun. It captures everything I love about this girl.

http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...y/File0004.jpg edit: sorry, i just saw the part about keeping it recent, but this is a good thing, it will encourage me to venture out of my apartment. |
I really like this photo, ring. Nice.
|
yes, thank you.
I often think about, Pace...(pronounced, pahchay.) He was a brilliant talkative restless entity. I chatted with him, while traveling from San Diego, to some small train station in Colorado, where i remember seeing, 'Dean Moriarty', spray painted on concrete. |

The house was a little messy, but I was fucking around with Windows Live Photo Gallery the other day and wanted to make a panoramic photo. I couldn't get it to work the way I wanted it to, but either way...
The other one is from my birthday a couple weeks ago. |
It's good to see you, Nick. Good job scoring twins.

A friend of mine bought the old Reno firehouse for developing into condos and commercial units. I showed up with a medium format camera. She asked me to get some candid shots. There was a girl there that was strikingly beautiful. I asked her to pose in the stairwell where the natural light was awsome. We have no idea who this girl is but it's some of the best portraiture I've ever done:

I took these portraits on August 28, using my beloved 80mm. The face is someone known to long-time TFP folks (aka mixedmedia). She's my favorite subject, best friend, lover, and pardon if I state the obvious: a beautiful model. I think I especially captured her genuine personality, wit, intellect, and sweetness in these two:

My mother:
http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...y/DSC_0856.jpg My youngest sister: http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...y/DSC_0854.jpg Recent enough. The three of us traveled 37 rural miles one way, on a saturday, towards the one place that served fresh carnitas, only on saturdays. |
I love that portrait of your mother. I see a lot of you in her.
|
Thank you.

My good friend who lives in the apt. right next to mine. He's 90 something years old.
We have a mutual crush thing going on. I clean and bandage his skin-tears that have been happening more often, lately. He was arriving home from a fourth of july parade this day. He served as a combat medic during world war two. He isn't comfortable talking about his experiences there. He has the most beautiful eyes. I would like to take more pictures of him, but he's quite shy, so I won't push it. http://i253.photobucket.com/albums/h...y/DSC_1054.jpg |
since I can post kid pictures now...these go along with the Obama rally set up there:

dlish, the Two Yemeni boys in Shibam is just really great photography work, like National Geographic work. That photo tells all kinds of stories, but the expressions are the most telling.

She didn't want to be photographed (but she did want to be photographed), so it turned into a game of shutterbug chase. There were no clouds that day and this was shot in hard shadows, using manual focus with a 50mm lens. Taken Sept 6, 2009 in Ft Myers, FL

Spanish men are known for their devotion to family, especially their daughters. I thought this image really captured that sentiment. |

We took the boo to a Halloween event yesterday. She didn't wear her costume because it was too hot (scorching hot & no shade; I felt really bad for some of these kids) but I did manage to get a few shots of the costume contests that I liked.

These ladies are tea pickers, in the highlands of Sri Lanka. I'm not sure if they were joking about me wearing a sarong, or that I had just walked past them and they were surprised. I like the slice of life shot:

Over the past year and a half there have been monumental changes in lives of my sister and I...some of which led to misunderstandings and hurt feelings. Her unhappy marriage and depression was the root of it all. These pictures were taken last month during a weekend get away to help get over it all. We have different ways of seeing life's events, but we're finally on track with each other again. I love her.
I took this of her... http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...0710Medium.jpg ...and she took this of me. http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/s...0706Medium.jpg |

I liked how this photo captured her hands and facial expression, echoing the religious iconography of the saints. She was the annual Swamp Buggy Queen, a long-standing tradition and highly-esteemed honor in Naples, on a scale as revered as any royalty or goddess or saint. She presided over the swamp buggy races all day in the hot sun. Taken on October 25, 2009 with a Sigma 50-500mm lens.

These pictures are amazing. As much as I like the quiet or here where I live, a part of me really misses all the people and happenings of the city.
This thread makes me long to go back. Sigh. |

now that is some fun tongue........

My sister. Christmas morning. We both got cameras, opened them and took pictures of eachother taking pictures of eachother.
http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h9...conite/001.jpg This is one of my best friends. We took a roadtrip to the next town over for lunch, got a flat tire, and ended up sitting on the sit of the road for an hour waiting for her mother to come rescue us. I love this picture. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h9...conite/015.jpg |

Nice to see this thread is being kept alive with so many lovely contributions. Don't stop.
