I chose to have my dad's old film SLR as my 18th present, after having years after my birthday where I didn't know what I wanted as I generally don't want things.
I decided after a festival in spain, where I used disposable cameras, that I loved film photography and the spontaneity that comes with it, which you can't get with Digital P&S cameras.
Then I saw the camera in the house and wanted it!

It's a Pentax ME-F Film SLR, so nothing special; they go for about £20 on eBay. Still, I love the way it looks, and you get lots of comments because it looks quite classic.
eg:

It's autofocus with certain pentax lenses which have the motors in, but they're very slow and not worth it, so it's best to use a manual focus (or zone focus/hyperfocal), and then use the in-viewfinder focus confirmation led.
It has aperture priority, bulb, manual .125 or full manual controls, and can do multiple exposures.

I also have with it:
Tokina 28mm f2.8
Sigma 70-210 f4.5
Flash which goes on a hotshoe w/ the angle controllable for bounce.
Remote trigger

I've only shot two films, one expired(by 5 years!) colour iso 400 Fuji, and a new Ilford XP2, which I really love.

I've bought a few more films to try out, namely:
Fuji Velvia 100 x2 - one to see what it's like, and another to cross process
Fuji Pro 800Z for low-light photos
Fuji superia 1600 for even lower light
more ilford xp2

I'm mostly using this just to mess around.

The colour are the expired colour, and the bw the ilford xp2.

I'm not trying to be a photography expert, but I don't feel comfortable posting up all the photos of my friends on the net, even though they are in my opinion the better photos, as I managed to get them "candid", which I love the look of, and digital cannot ever quite get in my view.

Some comment on the photos would be good though

I LOVE the black and white ones. Some of the pictures are a little grainy for my taste. But, then again, the graininess adds a little something to other pictures.

I LOVE camera porn and that's one sexy camera.

This one is my favorite. The grain, dust specs...it's all nicely done. Do you develop these yourself?

The grain I think is due to the film being so far out of date, but I think it looks kinda cool with it. The pictures of my friends look like they're from the 70s as a result

I don't develop them myself yet, although I hope to in the future. I probably won't develop the films I've used at the moment as they're C41 process, including the ilford black/white. Apparently the standard black and white process is more suited to home developing, so I'll probably buy the equipment needed around Christmas time and start developing them

I've got a flatbed scanner with negatives tray, so hopefully that will give good enough scans for 6x4s.

These were all just developed and put on a picture CD by the local supermarket.
