Hacienda Yaxcopoil

Couple days ago I took a day trip out to one of the hacienda's in the area. Hacienda Yaxcopoil is a work in progress of sorts. Somewhat restored and somewhat in ruin. Some area's of the 22,000 acre hacienda are being worked on, while other's look as if the people simply left 100+ years ago and left everything right where it was. Still other parts look like the jungle over took them years ago.

Scattered within the house are Mayan artifacts. The bowls and dishes on the wall predate the Spanish, also note the pieces of Mayan carved limestone and maize stones:



There's several places where the old equipment and machinery can be seen in various states of restoration:




The property also has a large cenote (large fresh water open well) available for swimming. The day I was there it had a small group of younger European tourist swimming and lounging around it. It started to rain and I decided to head for my truck rather then risk yet another digital camera. I'm on my third, if (when?) this one goes I'm going to switch to disposable waterproof ones.

That place looks very cool. It's the kind of place I would have expected to find Malcolm Lowry getting sauced.

We hail from the Michoacan, Mexico area. I want to buy land there someday.

My only knowledge of the price is it's surely out of my range. They do lease it for events such as weddings. The day I was there they were filming a Mexican soap opera. I took some photo's of the set and production. A very nice, very large well spoken man informed me photos were not allowed and asked to see my camera. He went frame by frame and deleted all the photos of the set I'd taken and handed me back my camera. He was very polite about it and left all the photo's I took of the rest of the property. I asked him if it was alright to watch while they filmed and he said "as long as you don't photograph anything and are quiet it's not a problem." I watched them do the same scene over and over for a while. Two very large breasted women nearly falling out of their dresses were doing some scene. all I could understand was "He's you're brother!"... "I told you he's not my brother!" Over and over again. it was interesting watching them go from very heated conversation to "Cut!" and laughter. When it started raining again they (the ladies) went inside and I headed for shelter myself. Sadly I would have preferred to share their shelter but ended up in the gift shop instead.

They have guest houses (two I think) for $60 a night. For another $20 they'll feed you:

If you plan on going I suggest winter. I didn't see any A/C and it was a little over 100F and raining (100% humid?) the day I was there.

Or if you feel you really want A/C and more luxury you can stay at the Ha. Temozon. Both Bush and Clinton have stayed at this property:

I think you can get a special deal for around $500 a night for a room or you can rent the whole place for 10K a day.
