it makes me want to yodel
sorry thats all I can think of. the picture of that house with the rear view in it is my favorite of the batch. |
thanks!!! I love Snæfellsnes, were you on the south side?
I really want to go back there..... |
Cool pics! Snæfellsnes is very nice :)
Is that town Stykkishólmur? I don't know how Snæfellsjökull looks like around now, but I remember in September it was quite awesome to see the traces of lava flows by its side. In fact we will visit the peninsula again this summer, when my parents are visiting. |
Beautiful pictures... thanks for sharing. Makes me want to get out on the land again, pronto. Oh, and happy first day of summer to you, neighbor! :)
|
Man, it seems that the whole Icelandic residents + Icelandophile contingent has posted! :)
|
Well, Iceland I dunno know so much about, but I like your pics. Very nice!

Mixed, there are direct flights from Orlando to Iceland... one of the few Icelandair hubs in the US. You are most welcome to check out the place anytime... :) |
Very nice photos...
I'd love to visit there sometime. |
cheers for the feedback. the one with the house and snæfellsjökull in the rear view mirror was just a quick opportunistic snap while waiting for my guest (i´m a host on both hospitality club and couch surfing and have a french artist staying with me at the moment) but it turned out really well. our travel was out to snæfellsjökull on the south side then across the top. we drove up to the glacier and walked even closer but i am well aware of the dangers and decided not to get too close. the town in the pictures is stykkishólmur. we stopped at helgafell after that then came home as the weather deteriorated a bit.
and a happy 1st day of summer to abaya and everybody else. seems fitting that it rained for most of the day. perhaps i might start sorting through the 220 photos from my trip to jökulsárlón & the golden circle over last weekend (obviously i´ve gotten the turbo tourist-guide thing down pat) and post a few later. |
there's still one more known Icelander here that hasn't posted.
|
will a picture of björk guðmundsdóttir bring them out of hiding?

Wait, are you talking about Skogafoss??? That doesn't count, you said "known Icelander," which I took to mean as IcelandIC. :) Funny, the Iceland-TFP'ers are all non-Icelandic... no natives! |
No, Skogafoss doesn't count at all.
LOL there's a native lurking... |

Show yourself, you devious little elf!! (Are you also my neighbor, like lotsofmagnets?) |
What an interesting place! Thanks for opening up the world. (Nope, I'm not Icelandic)

Nice pics. Like the idea/story that #10 is telling (the rearview mirror) and picture 13 reminds me when I came over that ridge some 15 years ago to find that the tarmac had been blown off the road during the night.
BTW the last picture seem to be taken at outer regions of Snæfellsnes :-) Yours Zweiblumen |
the last pic was nearly back in rvk. just the dark clouds brewing. there was a large section of road near snæfellsjökull that was being worked on while i was there and it was the worst kind of dirt road for about 10km. hopefully it will be fixed in the next month or so since i think i may spend some more time there depending on work and visitors. i haven´t had any probs with tarmac blown away but gravel roads have become apalling over the winter (the road to solheimarjökull was the death of my old car, and part of the road had fallen off a cliff!) the problem with wind is blowing snow over the road. an example:
http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g1...s/IMGP3540.jpg i encountered this coming home from ísafjörður over easter and was driving 90km/h and suddenly it looks like that. heavy braking ensues... so there´s a native icelander here. i guess with 90,000 odd members it had to happen. with luck they´d live in the house between myself and abaya and ktspktsp (mind you a house is almost 1/2 of this city :P ) |
