critiques on famous photographers by people who dont know them.

My friend forwarded me this link today, and I want people's reaction. What I find funniest is the lack of interest in thigs like era the photo was taken as well as we are all becoming slaves to AF! Let me know what you think, i laughed myself silly at this!

Thank you so much for this link, serlindsipity. It's funny how a lot of people who learn the terminology, join a few forums, buy an expensive camera without the skills to properly use it suddenly become "experts" when critiquing someone else's work.

I love the "take one step to the left"-type comments. People dropping drivel like this love to consider themselves experts when in fact they don't know a damn thing. Give someone a digital camera and a computer and suddenly they're David LaChapelle or something.

That was hilarious... Henri, your AF isn't working well.

God, I loved that. Unbelievable. Thanks for posting the link.

I joined a photography forum this past weekend (I'm no photographer I assure you but I couldn't read posts without registering). Aside from the tips, there are a great many critique and correction posts where people are looking for feedback on their pictures. Given the responses that are given on that forum, I'd say all these pictures would be panned.

Just to point out that those aren't real responses. The article is satire. It would make an interesting experiment though. I suspect you could produce some similar responses for real!

Probably right about that. While there are certain 'rules'(meant to be broken) that one should keep in the back of their heads, inevitably it is the eye and what it gives the brain that determines what really makes a good shot. Some of my best pictures were errors in a technical sense. One photographer whose work I enjoy seeing is Bruce Weber's and since I saw him at work(photographing my cousin's wedding) in 86, I've kept what I've witnessed in the back of my head. This is one of his:

Yeah, that one Man Ray one, the girl with the squiggles on her back?

She should really have those checked out. Christ, she looks like a cello or something.

Damn, you've burst my bubble.

sadness to the untrue factor, but I really could hear people say that. Thanks to photoshop, everyone can cover up their lack of photo skills with the wink of the magic wand!

I know this sounds silly, but I looked at all of those pictures and didn't really like any but the big bike.

I guess I'm not cool enough to know what "good" photography is.

serlindsipity 01-22-2007 09:06 PM

its okay, we'll forgive you Jinn for not liking them. Youre bound to learn in time =P
