Destiny and Fate
What's the difference? I never understood.
|
There isn't one, they're synonyms. Two different words that mean the same thing.

Those definitions also suggest that Fate is a force that drives one's Destiny... i.e. Destiny is applied to the specific individual while Fate is larger force that drives that Destiny.
It also suggests though that in use they are synonyms... "It is Fate that has lead me to my Destiny" but your could say: "Fate lead me to my fate." It's just not as well written the second time. |
I knew there would be a topic about me one day.
The way I see it, fate and destiny are different things (negating the definition). Fate is similar to "You have no choice but to die in life", While destiny is the revolution of something; "I'm in school for the next 4 years to be a teacher". The person's fate is to one day die, but his/her destiny is to one day be a teacher. Fate: No Choice Destiny: Choice IMHO they're interconnected, but not exactly the same thing. |
The way I've understood the difference between the two words is that destiny is something that takes a bit of work, some epic travelling and stuff like that, as in the phrase 'to fulfil your destiny'. Fate is more automatic, written in the stars, can't avoid it type of thing. You can fail to fulfil your destiny but you can't escape your fate.

And I have to say part of me is within this topic as well.
Personally I think the actual difference between the two are up to the people who believe in them. Kinda like how ever you take it kinda deal. |
Yeah, I think it's a matter of how you've heard the word used in the past.
To me, fate means what will become of you while destiny is what COULD become of you (for better or worse). |
Yeah I think that about sums it up there Xepherys.
