Baby Cologne... HELP
 

hey everybody how's it going? i'm in need of a little help... have any of you with babies or young children used any kind of baby cologne or perfume? my sister is about to hatch any day and my mom is aggrovating me to death to try and find this one particular brand but she doesn't know the name of it. all i know is it's in a blueish pump spray bottle. [really narrows it down huh?] i thought maybe someone might be using it or something similar. thanks in advance

That sounds like a horrible idea. Babies have a unique natural scent that should be enjoyed while it lasts. Nothing else smells like a baby. (And I'm not talking about the scent of poop.)

To directly answer your question, however, I haven't heard of such a thing.

i agree red but this stuff is supposed to smell like that "baby scent." i think its used more as a room deodorizer and spray on their clothes and diaper bags. [and the biggest reason is cause mom and sis want it and if i can't find it i'll never hear the end of it...lol]

So it's like a "New Car Scent" air freshener for babys? New Baby Scent?

Well, the only thing remotely close that I could find on the Babycenter store was Musti Eau De Soin Spray, but it is described as "The finishing touch for the world's sweetest-smelling baby, this spray-on fragrance safely mists your baby's tender skin with subtle aromas of flowers and fresh fruits along with extracts of plants known for their skin-softening properties".

I know Johnsons and Johnsons makes a baby cologne that is a blue bottle...but I forget if it is a pump or not.

And I have to say...baby cologne is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard of. No offense to you, gump.

Haha "baby scent" that means it smells like poop. I'd steer your Mom away from it, the less chemicals in the air and on its clothes the baby is exposed to the better.

Out of curiosity, I searched for baby cologne on Google, and there wasn't too much to choose from. Other than the one Redlemon suggested, these are the ones I found. J&J cologne is not a spray, so I guess thats out.

I think if your mom wants it so bad, she should go crazy looking for it unless she's infirmed.
Personally, putting something on a baby to change its aroma is just weird and frivolous.....nothing beats the smell of a clean baby....

Despite our political disagreements, I'm going to have to sit on the Doctor's side of the room for this debate. I apologize in advance to anyone who is offended (I'm sure someone here uses teh stuff,) but anyone who feels the need to spray their baby wtih any sort of perfume needs to reevaluate their ability to raise a child who will survive to maturity.

mrself you make a good point. in all honesty i think its one of those "keeping up with the jones" situations. i've got a couple friends that has this stuff now my mom and sister just have to have it because they do.

surely the way a baby smells is a combination of the soap/lotion/laundry poweder or liquid/fabric conditioner and so forth that you use?

I know that my daughter smelled of J&J baby bath a lot....

It's nice, but unless you only wash your baby in warm water, you are adding a scent.

That said - baby cologne is a nuts idea.

There is nothing like the smell of a baby. Why ruin it by spraying cologne on? I wouldnt go crazy looking for it.

i thought this thread was a joke when i first read it. babies smell awesome (fresh diaper helps) without any added perfumes. not sure I would want to put a chemical on my child to "keep up with the jones". the childs needs comes first when there that young, and i doubt the baby is saying it needs it. crazy stuff!

i was even more shocked to see that they actually make this stuff! Use a scented zinc or vaseline cream when changing they smell nice and it helps there bottoms.

That is really wierd if theyre actually going to use it on the baby. But if its just for around the baby they should be able to use any old air freshner...I dunno.

I read some research a couple of years ago about respiratory infections being more common in children that are exposed to air fresheners more as babies.

I've not looked it up again recently, but was intending to as we're thinking of having one ad I don't want to tempt fate.

In general the less volatile organics you add to the air around your baby the better, I'd have thought.

It's not as destructive as smoking, but why take the chance?

Babies smell gross anyway, so I can see why they want it.

Sorry, I have to say, never heard of anything like that.
Even if it were something easily found in any store I still wouldn't use it on my baby. He's 3 months old now and I love smelling him with just baby lotion on him. So do other people apparently because when someone holds him they talk about how good he smells!
Gotta agree with everyone else, it's crazy!

Although asthma has been reliably linked to over-parenting, and babies who were excessively protected from dust, dirt, and general air particulants. Ugh -- this is why I don't have children (yet!)

Poor kid. A baby's senses are much more sensitive than ours. I can only hope that after a few uses, it loses its novelty.

FYI, I know they're looking for a specific fragrance, but if it's at all possible to move them away from the spray idea and into a perfum balm (perhaps this fragrance comes in different forms?), I would certainly try. More controlled application without worry of accidental spray to the face.

My mother would dress my child in a tutu and trounce her around at starbuck's "showing her off" like some new gadget she bought on the shopping network if she had her way. This objectification of newborn babies is horrible and ignorant. Yuppies are utterly inhuman.

This product reminds me of a $600 stroller I once saw which had brakes.

my mother-in-law bought my son johnson & johnson cologne but i can purchase it at my local publix as well.

Seems like a wierd idea to me, but each to their own. I'm not sure how anyone could want to mask the smell of a newborn child.

edit - I'm with just about everybody else - the idea of baby cologne is just so wrong.

Back to the topic in question.......cologne? For a baby? How bizarre. And here I thought I had heard of every crazy thing out there. Who knew?

Babies have the best smell in the world...why mask that?

I'd like to note, for anyone who reads the article and the "comments" that follow, the following two things:

1. The woman with the premature baby is a moron. She has a premature baby. That is a special circumstance that obviously requires different approaches to the care of the child. She makes it sound like her advice should be heeded by all parents of normally developed babies, and that the article "overlooks" this. If you don't have a premature baby, then you don't receive instruction on how to care for a premature baby, you get instruction on how to care for a normal baby.

2. Why would someone a.) ask for help from anonymous strangers over the internet on how to care for her son's recently butchered penis, and b.) why it didn't occur to her before/during/after the procedure to ask the doctor performing the procedure on how to care for it?

Number 2 really bothers me. And people wonder why some parents infuriate me.
