Baby's first Milestone (a kick daddy felt)!
Well, reality has finally settled in, I felt my first child kick through it's mothers stomach a couple days ago. I don't know what it was about that first time I felt it kick, but somehow it changed something in me. I've know for months that I would be a dad, but somehow it never really set in just what that means untill I felt that first kick. It just makes me feel so proud and joyful that I helped bring that little one to life. I'm simply at a loss for words...
So, for you guys out there, when did reality really set in for you, how did you feel? |
For me, I don't think it was until I saw her on the ultrasound. I'd heard the heartbeat, and I knew she was kicking, but for me, seeing was believing. I don't think it truly set in until my daughter was born, though. That was just amazing. Good luck to you. :)

About 5am, on the way to the hospital, thinking "shit this is happening to us now!"
|
It is still sinking in... I am still, occasionally struck with, "Oh my God, I'm a Dad... I'm responsible for these two lives..."
I found my first grey hair in my beard days after my wife did the home pregnancy test and it showed positive. That was just over 11 years ago. |
I still get the "I'm a Fucking Dad?" feeling once in awhile.....even after changing diapers and wiping up baby puke three seperate times......guess it really never will go away.
This is a good thing. |
For me, it was when we decided to stop using contraception, even though it took another 6 months until conception. In other words, I fully accepted being a dad at the point that we decided that it was time to have a child. The ultrasound, the kick, the pink line on the test, none of these had as much impact as the initial decision.

congrats btw, well my little girl is 11 months old, and I think the first time it really set in that i was a father would be when I started to assemble all the baby stuff, like the crib, change table....which on a side note was a effing crazy since the crib was missing the instructions. now i get that same feeling every morning when i hear her playing in her crib. just laughing and playing and she'll scream and giggle da-da when i walk in to get her. love that. its like winning the lottery every morning.

It hit me when I saw the first ultrasound and there he was, with his little legs, arms and head.
Then I suddenly realized that it was real, that I was going to be a daddy. I agree, it was amazing. Two months to go :) |
The I'm gonna be a dad feeling hit me when she took the preg. test. Oh man, I totally wasn't ready for that, and it was totally unplanned, but everything works out for a reason. It was all cool and all untill she had to go to deliver, then it really hit me like a ton of bricks.

ahhh, I see, my wife never had birth controll, so we just stopped using condoms...

I felt it when we got a second ultrasound just about a month before the due date. The doctor thought she seemed a little small so he sent us in for a second one, and this time instead of looking like a little lima bean, it had a little face. But that first night in the hospital six weeks ago was such a feeling I'll never forget.
I wish I could forget last night though when she was fussing the whole night long :) |
