Need Help with Kid #8's Name

Okay I know I am going to open myself up to all of the negative comments, but I wanted to get some name ideas for our kiddie #8. Here are our kid's names so you can get familiar with what we are looking for;

Kristina Elisa Fyre Wood
Christopher Maxwell Cedar Wood
Christian Robert Red Wood
Christman Douglas Teak Wood
Christephen Chava Beach Wood
(Twin #1) Christamas Deland Oak Wood
(Twin #2) Christavis William Sandal Wood

Baby #8 is a girl and this is what we have so far;

Krist???? Yolanda Rose Wood

We use "K"'s for the girls and "CH"'s for the boys. We know the two middle names and seem to be having trouble with the "Krist" first name. The "Yolanda" name is from my wife's mother who is in poor health and seems to be hanging on just to see the baby girl born. I thought of "Kristrina" (an extra "r" added to Kristina) but my wife didn't like it. She thought of "Kristianna", but I didn't like it. So, at risk of inviting all of the negative comments to the number of kids we have and the second middle names, I am asking for any ideas for kiddie #8.

Thanks, Woody

have ya thoughtr of Kristal?

maleficent 11-21-2004 12:12 PM

From Babynames.com
KRISTALYN Beautiful bearer of Christ
KRISTA Christ Bearer
KRISTEN Christ-bearer
KRISTIAN Christ Bearer
KRISTIN Consecrated to God
KRISTINA Christ Bearer
KRISTINE Christ-bearer
KRISTY Christ-bearer
KRYSTAL A Clear, Brilliant Glass
KRYSTYN Christian, Annointed

The second middle names are a riot... But remember, these are the people who will be responsible for your care when you are unable to care for yourself... :D

Derwood 11-22-2004 08:56 AM

Not to sound like a jerk, but is this a joke?

f6twister 11-22-2004 10:00 AM

There is also Krysta, Krystalee (or various spellings), or Krystalynn.

Or try breaking it up: Krista Lynn Balsa Wood

don't feel like a jerk. My instincts are telling me this HAS to be a joke- who would do that to their children?

Well, other than certain rock stars naming their kid Moon Unit ;)

Redlemon 11-22-2004 12:28 PM

I'll take over for Derwood and shakran and take the polite route.

woody3rd, how does this naming method work out for your family? The names sound so similar, I'm sure I'd be calling the wrong kids by the wrong names all the time.

Also, it appears to me that you are deriving all of these names from the name Christ. Is this a religious devotion type of thing? Was it under the recommendation of a spiritual leader, or did you and/or your wife come up with it yourselves?

a-j 11-22-2004 01:01 PM

What is the deal with two middle names? Is this a regional thing?

absorbentishe 11-22-2004 01:33 PM

Is eight enough? Is it a gagle, or a flock? Wow, good luck with 8 youngens. To me the names are a mixture of religous/types of trees. I thought I had it bad with 4 kids.

First thing I thought when I saw this thread, except I was afraid to post anything.

canuckguy 11-22-2004 04:32 PM

i just wanna know how do you call them in the house with the names being so close!

Gopher 11-22-2004 05:41 PM

Hahah rival. Harsh! But really, I'm interested to see if this really is a joke or not...

MooseODV 11-22-2004 06:15 PM

Reminds me of my brother-in-law's parents... Their eldest daughter was Candy Appel (now married and name changed) I still think it would've been awesome if they'd stuck with it. Good luck!

tecoyah 11-22-2004 06:59 PM

Serious answer: Kristalynne - as in "crystaline" made of crystal

Non serious answer:....what...are you freakin' kidding me?
I thought my kids names were strange.

how about octavia? I hope you have the means to actually take care of all these children. if not, stop fucking.

and if this is a joke, stop fucking around.

woody3rd 11-24-2004 12:48 PM

wow, I have never had the reassure anyone that I am not joking. Most times it's because I have the kids with me or someone already knows that we have seven kids and one on the way. so, to answer the idea that this is a joke, no, my wife and I do have seven kids. it is not a mixed marriage with some of her's and some of mine. we had the kids together. the picture from the simpson's is too funny!

I knew that posting this situation would deliver some of the responses that have shown up. But, at the same time, I felt that someone would pop out the next "Krist????" name that would fit. thank you to everyone who has listed names.

the "Christ" part came simply from my middle name being christopher. we were going to name our first child Christopher, but Kristina decided to arrive first. then Christopher was next and the "chris" namecycle kept going. we had to be creative after Christian and we came up with Christman, Christephen, Christamas and Christavis. I thought that a second girl would give me a chance to use an easy "Krist????" name, but it is starting to get difficult to find one we both like.

the second middle name was my idea that comes from my pattern of being different and out of the ordinary. the kids love their second middle name and they often make sure to let people know their full names. if we ever need to adopt a child we will use "simulated wood" for their name. (okay, i am just kidding with the simulated wood).

thanks again for your ideas. I will check back to help answer any other questions or comments that come in.

woody

woody3rd 11-24-2004 12:58 PM

I'm back to answer some other questions;

yes, sometimes we do call the kids by the wrong name. but, I have witnessed other parents call their kids by the wrong name and their kids had totally different names in the first place.

my wife is a stay-at-home-mom. I have a good job with a county government here in florida that has great healthcare costs. my wife's mother was the oldest of nineteen (19) kids. so my wife's mother tought my wife how to feed 19 kids with one chicken. if i need a second job to support the family, i will (and have done so in the past). there is no need to fear that we are living off of the taxpayers.

Well, we are leaning toward the name; Kristandra Yolonda Rose Wood

It is the first name that passed the "cringe" factor.

maleficent 12-11-2004 09:21 PM

It's a little Dr Seussish... The first name and the middle name sort of rhyme... :D But that's ok...

WillyPete 12-13-2004 02:25 AM

I can't say this without it sounding racist, but are you black?

What's with taking all the names and turning them from their French or other origin to 'ghetto'?

Devon = D' vaughn
Daniel = D'Neal
Bianca = Beyonce

I know I'm not being helpful, but your kids are going to laugh at you someday.
I would have been beat up at school if I'd had a family with those names.

Slavakion 12-13-2004 11:40 AM

Christephen Chava Beach Wood
Christamas Deland Oak Wood
Christavis William Sandal Wood

How do you pronounce these? Chris-Steven, Chris-ta-mus, Chris-ta-vus?

Ishmal 12-19-2004 06:09 PM

so wens baby number 8 due???

Hash_Browns 12-20-2004 06:32 AM

My youngest (so far, as we have a bun in the oven also ;) ) is Named Crystal, so I have to say I'm partial to that name :) Kristal. I think it's a bit odd to name your kids after a specific wood, but who am I to judge. When your kids are older I just hope you give them the means to deal with people who might make fun of them. Teach them that you named them to be individuals and how to deal with the masses...but I'm sure you already know that :)

Congrats on the new baby!!

TheKak 12-30-2004 04:08 PM

8 kids, thats amazing! I would go with Krista or Kristen if it were me. I would also put my kids into martial arts and buy them all boxing gloves to practice on each other =P

Arroe 12-30-2004 09:19 PM

oh god, this has to be a joke. Please tell me this is a joke....

woody3rd 01-06-2005 10:42 PM

Back again with some answers....No, we are white, you got the pronunciation for Christamas and Christavis correct, but Christephen is like Christ-evan. Baby #8 is due the first week in March.

yankeefatboy 01-06-2005 11:11 PM

I'm not gonna make any rude remarks, but it reminds me of a mother of a former high school athlete in the late 80's/early 90's here in Sacramento whose name was/is Nomo Williams. When asked what the name signified, she said that he was number 8 or 9(I can't remember the exact number she said) and there would be no mo'. That's a true story. The kid ran/played at River City High School.

pinoychink790 01-06-2005 11:41 PM

how about using a name like christoman or something? just a thought

Mephisto2 01-10-2005 04:56 PM

Keavy (usually pronounced keevee)

It's an Anglicization of the Irish name Caoimhe (pronounced KWEEva)

It means "beautiful"

Mr Mephisto

rickscales 01-13-2005 08:12 PM

You'll catch me dead before I put "Christ" in one of my children's names, however the hell many you have is enough for both of us of I guess.

01-14-2005 08:28 PM

Hey, I think they are beautiful names, they're of nature. What's more beautiful than that?
If it were to sound good with my last name, I would name my next child (if I were to have another one) Ocean or Raine

rickscales 01-22-2005 10:38 AM

But see - the kids' last names is already "Wood." They are having to undergo enough abuse at school already, but then they're given these names?

My last name is Scales, I know what I'm talking about.

Janey 02-16-2005 08:22 AM

I woild go with a K, but refrain from the krist concept. How about something like Kendra, Katherine (Kate) or karin. all names that girl would like.

ariekitten 02-16-2005 09:26 PM

congrats on the new baby! i personally am fond of the name Kirsten, but i know it's not the same as something with "krist"...etc. you could go with Kristine like from the phantom of the opera, though i doubt that's how it was spelled in that story.

lmao @ morning wood....hehe

bad jane 02-25-2005 08:42 AM

you do realize that your children will hate you right? i came from a family of four with similar names and believe me--we all hate it (and yes, that is present tense). i would have prefered to be named three, at least it would have been different from my siblings. (not that my name sounds all that bad, unless you happen to know my siblings. we are a tongue twister all on our own--please offer your kids my sympathy!)

sorry, but i can't think of anything right now. everything sounds funky with yolanda to me...

hunnychile 02-25-2005 06:23 PM

How 'bout Ed Wood?

BTW - You aren't from Arkansas are ya?

mojodragon 02-26-2005 09:25 AM

wow, it's probably a good thing my wife and I aren't christians. This pattern seems like the kind of thing people expect of me when I tell them mine and my wife's name.

We're Joseph and Mary.

Amnesia620 03-01-2005 02:39 PM

Hey all, previous posts ask/say this must be a joke...some people do this. I dated a guy about 5 years ago and it was just as weird as this situation...

Here's a list of things about my ex-boyfriend and his family's coincidental "pattern":
  • His Grandparents, all 4 of them, shared something uniquely in common: all of their (first & last) initials were "R.R." before and after they married eachother.
  • Prior to meeting and falling in love, both parents had, each, been married once. Coincidently, each of them were raising 3 daughters and both of their respective marriages ended in divorce.
  • "R.R." are both his mom's and dad's initials, which remained unchanged after they married, just like their own parents' initials had.
  • All 6 of his sister's initials are "R.R."; two sister's are married with children - each child's initials are "R.R."
  • My ex-boyfriend was the only child that his parents have had together, the only child who was neither a "step" child/sibling nor a half-sibling; his initials are "R.R."

Thank you for pointing that out. It'd be nice if parents who think they're being terribly clever with their kids' names would think of the children for a few seconds. It's bad enough when celebs name their kids stupid crap like Moon Unit, but at least their kids will be insulated from a lot of the taunting of other kids just by the fact that their parent is famous.

This Wood guy is setting his kids up for a lifetime of confusion over the first name and embarassment over the third middle name.

little_tippler 03-03-2005 11:31 AM

Kristiana
Kristy
Krissy

eerrr...why would someone name their kids with all similar sounding, odd names? Sorry to say I don't think you're doing your kids any favours. How do they feel about it?

03-03-2005 01:04 PM

Dureum or Alívio?

(Portuguese for Last One and Relief respectively - sorry, I couldn't resist ;))

[Edit] Damn, should begin with a K...hold on, I'll be back)

03-03-2005 01:19 PM

Well, I've looked, but couldn't find anything (the closest I got was Komplette, but it's not particularly feminine)

You could try thinking of things that your new daughter means to you, and then looking up those words in a foreign language - sometimes the results can be quite pleasing.

Shpoop 03-03-2005 03:26 PM

how about kristania?

Sage 03-03-2005 04:53 PM

wow, dunno about the names, but congrats on EIGHT KIDS!!! i think it's cool that you wanna still have sex with your wife after all that- i couldn't IMAGINE the stress her body has been through! anyway, raise them well, and they'll turn out fine, despite the names... and they'll know what it is to share and NOT have only child syndrome....

think of the grandkids...

krista ferwalken ? :)

woody3rd 03-04-2005 05:40 PM

Kristandra Yolanda Rose Wood arrived at 8:21pm Thursday evening, 03-03-05. The name Kristabel came in second with Kristanna in third.

My wife had a VBAC for the ladies who know what that is (vaginal birth after c-section). Her doctor felt that everything went better than planned.

I look forward to proving all of the nay-sayers wrong with the kid's names. The kids enjoy their names and we have had many positive reactions from other people. There have been a few negative comments over the years. I expected the negative posts here at tfp, but that is the glory of the whole concept.

My wife's mother is the oldest of 19 kids. I say we top that!

We don't live in Arkansas or any backwoods region. We are in SW Florida and yes, we are white.

If any other questions pop in, I will post answers when possible (busy running around with the kiddies).

Later, Woody

skinnymofo 03-08-2005 12:45 PM

i think i read you said you homeschooled your children? You take them out a lot i hope and show them the world and the different stuff right?

this isnt a bag on your parenting but, one of the people who owns where my mom works has a kid every 2 years and him and his wife are planning on doing it until she cant bare children anymore. This would be fine and dandy for them but they keep the kids at home, Homeschooled and only leave the house to go to church.
Ive been over at the work parties and these kids are going to be the most messed up children ive ever seen when they leave the house. (the oldest one is almost 18 and they held him back **HES HOME SCHOOLED**from graduating)
Im just concerned that other people arent doing this to their kids is all.
Good Luck man

woody3rd 03-09-2005 06:07 AM

nope, no homeschooling. we found a great school in our area and we couldn't be happier. this gives my wife a small break during the day and some extra face time with the little ones. the kiddies always have friends over or visit friend's homes. a couple of the older boys play soccer every weekend, so the kiddies get alot of "outside the home" activities.
