breast mik production stopped
 

My wife has been breast feeding our little girl who is now almost 7 months old. All is well, baby is doing fine, all normal stuff, but all of a sudden two days ago my wife stopped producing milk. doctor says its normal to stop and such, but said he does not see it often in a situation where the mother is producing normally then just nothing. anyone here ever heard or experienced this before? thanks for any info or comments.

Wow, that's really strange. All of our friends, and my wife included were able to breast feed until the children weened themselves. And as for my wife, she still flowed for 6 - 8 months after the last one stopped.

did the doctor check for blockages? I don't know that that would make the production stop completely though....

she is going in for a physical i think tomorrow or the next day, her breasts stopped swelling as well, like they would when full so blockage does not seem to be an issue but what do i know! hopefully everything will be okay. but we have the little girl on some formula at the moment, and she is drinking it like a trooper.

Wow, I have never heard of that. I was like a jersey cow! I'd seek some professional help.

Does she smoke? Is she experiencing some stress? What is her diet like? Is she eating and drinking enough throughout the day? Alot of things can affect milk production.

na she doesn't smoke, no stress, no changing in eating, sleep, nothing. very strange, but no uncommon according to the doctor.

I doubt it is a blockage as the engorgement would be very painful for her. My wife's production slowed down very fast and was done within a week. She noticed right away. While it may not be what you wanted for your baby but at least she got 7 months of breast milk. That is when the breast milk has the most impact in her development, especially for vitamins and her immune system.

for an update, no reason why she stopped apparently it is very common, the baby is doing well, and she crawled today for the first time! in the past month, she has:
two teeth popped up
can say now 4 words
and can crawl!
she is getting so fast
