So, how long does this usually take?

Mrs Mephisto and I had the unfortunate experience, at the beginning of this year, of an extopic pregnancy. Not only did we lose the pregnancy, but also one of her fallopian tubes was removed. The plus side of the story is that I got her to hospital in time when her tube ruptured and (obviously) she survived. And we know I'm not firing blanks! :)

So after a few months physical and emotional healing (and a 4 month break when we travelled), we're more or less trying again.

I've read differing opinions on whether having only one fallopian tube reduces your chances of conceiving. This is not what I want to discuss here, but rather asking other members here how long, generally, did it take you before you (plural) got pregnant? With us, the first time, it was literally after about a week. I've heard that it takes an average of 3 months trying to fall pregnant! Is that your experience?

Oh lord! There are SO many factors that I can not even begin to go into all of them!

I would think that the odds are certainly going to be halved with the removal of the tube. As I recall, the ovulation alternates between the two ovaries. Have you guys looked into fertility drugs? They may force ovulation, I'm not sure, from both ovaries at the same time, but also may end up leaving you with multiple ovulations, thus potentialy lots and lots of babies. That, however may be pretty cool.....when they are all finally out of diapers, if you should be so blessed! :D (And I certainly hope you are, cause that would be cool!)

I've read studies from both sides of the argument (it does reduce your chances; it doesn't reduce your chances), but I'm quietly hopeful.

It would break our hearts if we couldn't have children. My brother and his wife lost theirs 10 days before it was due. Sad story.

Talk about family luck...

Our first child is due in about 5 months. It took my wife and I about one year to finally conceive. At times it was frustrating that it was taking longer than what we thought it should. In the end, all it took was for us to relax a bit. We took a nice relaxing vacation and came back home pregnant :)

It took us about a year. My wife had endometriosis, so she had an op to clear that out. The gyno said if you are not pregnant in 6 months you should try IVF (which neither of us wanted to do). Anyway, almost 12 months later we went to see another specialist. We should've saved his enormous fee, because we were already pregnant :)

You know you are in trouble when your wife starts charting her cycle ;)

It took us 3-4 months, if I recall correctly. If it takes twice as long, you will still be fine. ;)

Shit, the first time took us 3 months, the second has taken us 2. Guess we're fertile. And guess it shows that birth control is effective.

turned out to be awesome, of course....it seems the counterintuitive cliche is true: it is at once the hardest and the best thing that has ever happened to me.

definitely relax. stress makes it less likely to happen for you.

when negotiations had begun for #2, i was psyched. i mean i hadn't had 24-7 access since like the first 6 months we were dating! but as soon as we decided to try again, whamo. i know we were lucky/blessed, but, man, i could've used a few months of tryin', y'know??

Took my wife approx four months after stopping the pill to concieve...but she miscarried that one about 9 weeks in. Extopic was a concern...but turned out not to be the case.

It then took another three months to concieve again, and low and behold after a 25 week pregancy:

I've heard of it taking years...I've heard of it never happening...and I've heard of it taking weeks.

One thing's for sure...YOU MUST work at it ;-)

Seemed like the first time we even thought about becoming pregnant, and left it in/no condom, we were pregnant. Not much work on either of our ends. I think she wanted to be pregnant, and there fore was able to get pregnent easily.

Well, we just had our first on Sunday and my wife had previously had an ectopic pregnancy a number of years ago.

We had used contraception until about Christmas 2003. By February she was preggers!

Assuming that you have sex once during the fertile time in her cycle, the chance of pregnancy is 14% I don't know if that's any help, but it's an interesting fact I just read today.

We had 2 kids on a total of 3 tries(!) - Guess we've been lucky.

First time pregnant, first time having sex with my ex. Second pregnancy, first time unprotected sex once married. Third pregnancy, third time unprotected sex. AMAZING, but true.

Lebell and I, however, being "older" and different, took 3 months.
