blond hair, blue eyes myth
 

Ever since junior high, maybe even before, I've heard things like "Hitler didn't like anybody that didn't have blond hair and blue eyes", or "Hitler had kids, but killed them 'cause they didn't have blond hair and blue eyes". Even my professor this year at university said something like this during a lecture.
Yes, in the writings of different Nazi's one will find that they argued for an Aryan race to civilize the world and things like that, but I don't think anyone can give me proof as to where they state that an aryan is one who is blond-haired as well as blue-eyed, and tall. For one, Hitler was dark-haired, even during childhood, and about 5' 8". His minister of propaganda was even shorter than he was, and had dark hair and brown eyes. It would seem like a stupid idea for a leader of a country to to declare that anyone who wasn't blond and blue eyed was inferior when it was quite apparent that most nazi leaders weren't.
Anyway, I'm not a fascist or anything, I'm just looking for proof to verify this argument that this is what the Nazi's argued for.

It wasn't the only thing allowed, but the "Nordic" image was the preferred model for the Aryan race.

The idea that an "Aryan" race is blond and blue-eyed, comes from the Northern European location, where much of the "native" population has those traits. A lot of conquering peoples have had similar views based on how their people looked. They just don't get the press because they generally didn't kill six million people who looked different. It isn't a new idea.

Hitler eventually lashed out and killed the things that he despised about himself.

He actually had (If I remember from the history channel correctly) a whole heirarchy of hair/eye/height/head shape combinations that dictated how aryan you were.

As for why he would do this, given he was short and dark haired, I always wondered as well. i think part of the reason was that his ideal of the aryan master race was a future ideal, something that could only happen once the Germans controled everything.

It does testify to his power as a demagouge that he could say "people who look like me are inferior and should not be listened to" and everyone would say "yes, heil hitler!". But keep in mind that this is not a totally alien phenomena in our age. Feminists continued to rally around Clinton after he took advantage of a position of power to seduce a younger women, and conservatives continue to deify Rush Limbaugh despite his drug addiction (notice how I picked one from each side of the ideological spectrum so I don't get flamed) :lol: .
