I dont get it.
I may be naive, but i still dont get it. Ive been reading jokes and post all about people making fun of/mocking god/jesus and other religious statments, yet we arn't allowed to say dead baby jokes or other stuff? like c'mon! I dunno, but i think that equal people would be insulted by religion bashing as would baby/gay bashing. Whats the difference between me laughing at a dead baby than laughing at a dead man. i think they are both equaly disturbing. If i said [insert dead baby joke], id get a warning/banning. but if i said [insert one of the many religion jokes found in humor thread] people would laugh and say "good stuff" and "funny keep it coming". Im not saying i want to be able to say dead baby jokes but i wondering why people think its ok to post religion jokes and not baby/gay/other jokes. I know if i dont like what being posted i can go suck rocks, i just want some peoples input on the issue.
Thanks |
Well, dead baby jokes are gross.

No, not all of us find them amusing, but like the dem's taking swipes at the repubs and vice-versa, it is acceptable to not like God and organized religion on TFP.
What is NOT acceptable are bigoted statements and personal attacks. Example: - I think Catholicism sucks. (acceptable) - I think Catholics suck. (unacceptable) There is a subtle but important difference between the two. The first targets a religious belief system while the second targets the individuals who hold that belief. So while the first is harsh, it is marginally acceptable. Also, please know that mods don't have a magic formula to judge borderline comments. What we try to do is judge the spirit of the comment along with what is said and who/what the comment targets. As a result, I may find the first comment just barely acceptable, while another mod might find it just barely unacceptable. As for comments attacking God/Jesus personally, while offensive to me, I figure He can take care of himself. ------------------- Now, Dead Baby jokes are something Halx just DOESN'T like. So, since we are guests in his house, they are not allowed. Personally, I think they're funny, but this isn't my house, so I follow the house rules. |

If you are talking about jokes you will find we are just as tough on jokes that insult anybody.
People have been warned or banned for racist and religious jokes that were obviously out of line. We don't have a perfect method and if you see a joke that you find offensive please report it. We don't always catch everything so don't assume because it is there that we support the sentiment. Any joke that is mean, hurtful, insulting or seriously disgusting isn't really funny. |
I think Lebell put it nicely - if Halx don't like it, I won't do it! Works for me!

Well I don't "get it" either.
I would say that a "if you don't like it don't look at it" rule should apply to everything. So in my opinion dead baby jokes are fine, as long as labelled as such. But my opinion means dick...it ain't my website! So I follow the rules, but I will always always be against censorship. Always. BTW: I'm not complaining, the tfp rocks, and if that means palying ball, thats fine. I'm not complaining, just putting forward my opinion. |
Sometimes the world is fascist, and one group of people control what others can and can't do.
This is one of those times, and proof positive that it can work. |
Well, compare babies to child pornography. Child porn is illegal, but adult porn is NOT.
I dont think it's against the rules to make fun of dead adults (check out the storm thuromd thread :D) And besides, whether or not jesus existed is upon the belief of each person. |
