Will your posts come back to you?
Have you ever wondered if what you post here about yourself or whatnot will ever come back to you...
For example, if you post here that you shave your *wink*, do you think that in 20 years when you run for the senate someone will find that post and publish it? Reikes |
What I post here is pretty much what I say in real life. What you see me say is what I really think and say. Simple as that.
If we can elect a man who admitably did cocaine, and a man who 'tried it, but did not inhale' to the presidency, I hardly think that the hair on my winky would be a deciding factor in any election.
well, not that i hope for it, but the site does have a history of data loss. Tragedy to some, salvation to others?
it's like keeping a journal you burn every few years ;)
That's always in the back of my mind. It's all traceable. I just make sure I don't say anything I'm not willing to say to the person or to the public. I think it will always be out there, somewhere...
They say the best way to learn about your past is to run for public office. |
Once I've decided something is the right thing to do and decide to do it, I don't worry or care about the repurcussions of what I do in some hypothetical future.
What you see is what you get. Take it or leave it
do we really want to live in a world where shaving your *wink* is such a morally objectionable thing? i say bring on the google caches, i'm not afraid to say shaving is ok.
but in case someone is reading this in 20 years: i don't shave my *wink*. |
If someone found this, found out who I was, read everything I posted then I'd have to give them a high-five.
you honestly think the servers and backups will last that long?
i dont wanna make this sound as a good thing, but the tfp has crashed before. that wiped out all the records.
I've got nothing to hide!
This is the internet, anything and everything you send over it, including emails (unless they are seriously encrypted) should be considered public domain... With a little knowhow and computer power, just about anything sent over the lines is available. Moral of the story : Don't use the internet unless you are willing to accept the consequences of what you say. Note this is not unlike the real world, which computers are a part of.
If it becomes an issue, I'll just go back and delete incriminating posts ... and have Hal delete Everything I've said in response to sexual subjects, assuming we're still as uptight about such things.
Ultimately, while I may be ashamed of certain things I have done, some of which include the internet in them, basically, I don't care what 'the public' thinks of me much, especially since my personal goals and what I care for more strongly has nothing to do with anyone but my-self, and ultimately you have to accept the consequences of your own decisions.
You should expect, despite glitches and errors and whatever, that at some point people can dig up the screwups in your life. Especially if you become a public figure and money is offered for such information. It's funny how quick years old garbage can be dug up and quoted with the right incentives (stained dress, anyone?). |
Well, since this is the philosophy area, you need to let your actions be guided by your ethics. If you are a Deontologist, then you will choose to make the right action regardless of the consequences. If you were to follow this ethical theory, then you wouldn't be worried about the consequences of your actions.
Really though, if you think that something will harm you in the future, don't do it. That's the only way to be safe. Same result as Deontology, but from a different outlook. |
I am a very private person online although I come across as being quite the opposite.
I reveal a lot about myself, but not as much as I could, so the chances of someone making the connection with me in any of my online personas is very slim. I got my full, real name published in an popular australian newspaper in relation to my website - which my name doesn't appear anywhere on and I was very pissed off. but that was a while ago now and nobody ever mentioned it, so I think I'm safe. :p |
I intend to run for office on the platform of "ALIEN SEX FIEND THREAD STARTER".
Quote:
I think us 'Alien sex Fiend thread starters' should stick together. I don't post anything I wouldn't be happy to discuss in real life (much to the chagrin of my friends and coworkers.) |
I keep it in the back of my mind but I still tend to say things online that I may think twice about saying in "public".
