The 10th Dimension

I thought this would be better suited here - rather than in Nonsense.

http://www.jimmyr.com/blog/Visualize...n_233_2007.php

I can follow up to dimension 8 - then my brain starts bleeding.

Its pretty cool, if you're interested in that sort of thing i suppose.

Anyway - give it a chance, it gets better gradually - despite the monotone voice.

Have fun :)

I've talked to a few friends who are doing physics graduate work and apparently it holds pretty well until about 5 or 6, after which it's purely representing the theories of the people who wrote the book and there's not a whole lot of general consensus about what those higher dimension mean or what they represent.

Even so, it's pretty damn cool to watch and think about.

it is interesting....

Nice place to go for a change! Thanks for posting this.

Combining these theories with the concept of reincarnation....

When one "dies," his essence flows through the higher dimensions to be born again in this universe, or any of the other imaginable universes, at any possible time. With repeated incarnations within this space/time/universe, one soul populates all of history, although it never recognizes itself in all of those around it.

I'm going to douse the pipe now, and let my head clear.

Coo coo cachoo....

I don't know. I'm not all that smart, but to me it seems that all they did was repeat dimensions 1-3 for dimensions 4-6, 7-9, and then returned for the 10th.

If you follow the illustrations, dimensions 1, 4, 7, and 10 are points. Dimensions 2, 5, and 8 are intersecting lines. Dimensions 3, 6, and 9 are folds. The 4th dimension is built from the 3rd, the 7th dimension is built from the 6th, and the 10th dimension is built from the 9th.

It seems too contrived to me.

I remember reading Cosmos some years ago. I prefer Carl Sagan's explanations of spatial dimensions much more than these explanations. Basically, to reach a dimension one higher than your current dimenstion, add a right angle to a point in the corner of the current dimension. So, to get from the 3rd dimension to the 4th, add a right angle to the corner of a cube.

JJ, I never watched it yet, but just from reading your post that sounds pretty damn smart to me.

Hahah, no problem.

And as someone said - i think from about 6 onwards - it is just theories to help explain but cannot be proved.

cybersharp 07-17-2008 02:01 AM

oddly enough.. I was just thinking about dimensional theories before I noticed this thread. I watched the vid, I would say seem what they said seemed pretty logical to me, they made the explanation rather clearly. To tell the truth.. my mind hurts trying to encompass and understand the meaning of it, simply because I find that there is no way I could comprehend the infinity that is infinity.

But then, if you could truly comprehend the vastness of infinity in itself and understand it.. Well I do not believe anything human could do that.

I knew I posted this somewhere. It was shot down by the 8th post.

So how can I build a machine to travel to alternate realities. Like the one where I am with lots of hot chicks at the same time.

I can believe it up to the 5th dimension, but I think the 6th dimension may be something different.

There does need to be more research done into time and the 4th dimension to understand it better and to know if it can be impacted by a three dimensional object.

Perhaps i am being really stupid but i dont really understand the video!?

Seems pretty straight foward to me, but then again I am a huge science fiction fan. Everything covered here has been done before in various sci-fi books, tv shows, movies. If you ask me today's sci-fi is tomorrow's science.

roachboy 07-28-2008 02:46 AM

here's an e-version of edward abbott's flatland
it'll help think about this, despite the mysogyny.

Flatland: A romance of many dimensions

the novel enacts what jj mentioned above from sagan, but tries to figure out the "relative to what...?" question raised by the idea of right angles with respect to this dimension.

Moriarty 07-28-2008 07:11 AM

thanks. That stuff interests me
