True. We, as humans, do have an inherent need to belong to groups. So...we make groups up.

But that's not what atheism is. Atheism is more about not belonging to a specific group, or sub-group, and not so much about "belonging" to a different group.

I've always thought that "Atheism" was a gnarly clubhouse where you and your friends can hang out and drink Kool-Aid and talk about fresh greenbacks, toe-curling orgasms, and Ye Old Box That Casts A Blue Light like maybe they are the holy trinity of the "real" universe.

I think the TV should be the symbol of American Atheism simply because other religions already have cool pointy symbols.

I have never liked the Darwin fish. First, Darwin or more appropriately, a recognition of biological evolution, might often co-occur with an atheist position, but it is not equal to the atheist position. Second, the Darwin fish seems negative to me. It pokes fun at the Jesus fish. Is it necessary to make fun of a Christian symbol to assert an atheist position? Why a Christian symbol? Why not something positive?

What's more, Darwin was agnostic, not atheist.

Ah... but by not belonging, that puts us in the group of non-belongers. (is that a word?)
