Actually, I don't think so, but how long before we have a theory saying he capped Renquist in order to take away attention from New Orleans and to insert Clarence Thomas as Supreme Justice starts floating around?

However,..... Renquist has been ill for some time, and even if he wasn't ill... he was 80+ yrs old. He wouldn't have been around a whole lot longer anyway.

Dude, Renquist was like 80. If Bush farted in his general direction he would of died. He was an old guy in poor health.

You have to realize that now, and until he is replaced, the Supreme Court is 4/7 Liberal.

Yes, now the truth is revealed. Bush has been slowly killing the extremely ill SCOTUS justice for decades. He gave him thyroid cancer and started the waiting game, finally pulling the trigger after making him sicker and sicker for the last entire year...

If someone suggested such a thing to me in person, I would slap that person.

Of course... Renquist could have hung on for a few more years and where would that leave Bush? He wouldn't be able to appoint *more* conservative members of SCOTUS and gets to put Clarence Thomas in charge... Renquist died of natural causes BUT he had a little help from his good friend W.

Ah, no. O'Connor has not left yet. She won't leave the bench until her replacement is confirmed. Also, I heard on NPR that she had talked with R about retiring; since R planned to stick it out for another term, she decided to retire this term, rather than have two vacancies simultaneously. I'm actually surprised that she didn't decide to withdraw her resignation based on R's death.

In short, no. I think Rhenquist was probably Bush's ideal supreme justice. They don't come much more freedom-loving.
