Who likes Dragons?
Animal Planet :: Dragons
The goal is to create the most realistic dragons so well and so biologically fit that they can compel people that dragons did exist. This is like one big fantastic hoax that's amazingly well put together. |
yes, yes, yes, yes, yes
*creams pants* Seriously, that sounds really cool! |
dragons = very large reptiles = not far fetched.
|
It's times like this that I wish I had a TV with cable! :P
|

It's far fetched in their flying skills and the fact that they breathe fire. |

Except for those flying dinosaurs, of course... Quote:
I'm going to watch because of the *possible* scientific merrit. |
We have been really psyched about this!! The premier date is too far off
|
Cool
I love the fantasy aspect of it. I'd enjoy the scientific part very much as well. I'll definately be curious enough to try to catch this on TV. |
i always dreamed that it would be cool to have a pet dragon, like just a little guy that can play pranks on the people you dont like...
ok im done |
Dragon Tales, Dragon Tales
It’s almost time for Dragon Tales. Come along and take my hand, Let’s all go to Dragon Land. |
Hey isn't there a cartoon about weed smoking dragons?
Besides that, I like dragons but I don't think they're physical creatures but etheric creatures. And uhm, astral creatures... but hey.. that's my theory. |

Heh... Yeah, just kiddding. I suppose if the point of the show is to prove that dragons are biologically viable creatures I have no real footing to talk, especially if it proves that. |
Can somebody bump this thread a couple of days before the broadcast date? I don't want to miss it, but I'll probably forget about it by then.

Looks kinda interesting.

Damn, I really need to sign up for animal planet so I can see this, looks awesome. However, it also seems to me that whoever's idea this was is kinda full of themselves, just my opinion though.
|
Hell, I figure they do exist, right along with pixies, demons, vampires, werewolves, angels, gods and what have you.
|
I'm definately going to see this when it comes out!!

awesome awesome awesome!
http://www.draconian.com/ One of my best remember links.. I also have the ebook of the Draconomicon :D Which is completely awesome. I don't play D&D so I can't rationalise buying it. The descriptions each one has is quite well done. I'll probably have to wait to download this seeing I'm in australia and don't have cable O_o |
Oh I am so gonna watch this! I love dragons, and I can see the science behind it too.

Look at the skull of a common snapping turtle, remind you of anything? It's not to diffiucult to see that nature could come up with something that looked like the drawings of dragons that we see throughout the world. |
If I recall correctly the flying "dinosaurs" aren't classified as dinosaurs.
That was rather nitpicky of me. |
Especially as seeing how most were all of 30cm big ;)
|
apparently, the term dragon may also be a reference to serpent / snake / sea monster...
http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/vi...&search=dragon or, perhaps, they are the Biblical Seraphim... http://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/vi...earch=seraphim |
The archeaopterix (I probably didn't spell it right) was technically not a dinosaur, but the pteradons were and they were actually quite large. On the matter of the show, I am definitely looking forward to this. I, being a huge dragon fan in general, cannot miss this for anything.

Hopefully it won't be like that silly show where they looked into the future..."Death Gleaners" are coming!! RUN!!
And they made it sound like it's FACT, and not just speculation on what could happen. :p But I probably watch this. I saw a little bit about how they made it, they showed little clips during comercials. |
I like DRAGONS! Puff the Magic Dragon lives by the sea.....
|
just a reminder that its TONITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
Blast! You beat me to bumping this thread.
|
Thanks so much for the bump Shani, both my brother and I forgot about this. Definitely looking forward to it! :D
Edit: wow, took me a while to post that :p |
*does a happy dance*
|
it was really good, what did everyone else think?
|
i liked it quite a bit, i just wish that they had gone a little more into the evolution tree. i really liked how they explained everything so that it could work, like how they could fly, breathe fire, live in cold environments, outlive dinosaurs. my favorite scene was definitely the dive during the courtship ritual
|
Bumblef---, I missed it because I am forced to watch Spanish television as part of my AP Spanish class. Luckily it's on again!!! Still am looking for The Flight of Dragons.
|
It was nice, but they gave away way too much online.
|
I didn't like it all that much.
It was nice story. It was certainly pretty. The 'what if' storyline was a bit confusing at times. They kept throwing in real facts in the middle of their made up story and didn't bother to distinguish between the two. There was nice stuff about Chinese dragons and some wonderful pictures of real artifacts, but it was mixed in with the fiction. Like the stained glass windows they kept showing (the dragon in the mountains with the men who had spears) was that a real work? Did they just make it up to fit their 'story?' I've watched it twice now and still have no friggin' clue. I would have rather seen them talk more about what we do have on dragons (the stories, the engravings, etc...) and then try to show that there's a good possiblity that dragons were real. How they could have survived. What they might have evolved from and under what conditions. Sort of like the Dinosaur series they did a couple of years ago. "Here's what it might have looked like; Here's how we know." They kept talking about how every culture has their version of the dragon, but it never went any further. I don't know. It was alright, but it certainly wasn't what I was expecting. |
Guthmund, I agree on how they mixed fact & fantasy. Seemed laden with license. The children will be confused.
That stained glass looked very modern, and somewhat homemade. The Hydrogen lift sac theory was disturbing. A 6ft weather balloon is good for maybe 12lbs lift. So unless maybe they have a fleet of them attached to their lawnchairs... I'm all for fantasy when it's recognized as such, but the hopping back & forth gave me whiplash. |
I was talking about this today with some that saw it and I became confused as to this supposed find that was discussed in the beginning of the show. Apparently they had a bit of a mix up between the show's fantasy and reality. What was this "find"--this was more fantasy, right? If it was real I think I would have been first to know via any news program in the morning.
|
I have to say I dont think Im as impressed as I was supposed to be with it. It was ok...the ideas really were things I'd already considered in my head for many years (cept fo the hydrogen thing).
But hey....any chance to get to listen to Patrick Stewart  |
Oh man. I LOVE dragons. They are big, huge animals. I love their scaley skin and their fire breathing breath and those massive wings. The are just so awesome!!! I will most definatelly watch this if it ever comes back on. Can't figure out when its next airing date will be.

Dragons are friggen sweet. I think that it could be entirely possible that they were alive at on time. The reason for this is because dragons as a species were universal. The chinnese had dragons (its one of their years on the calendar), The english believed in dragons (knights), the egyptions believed in dragons, and so one. Their is some variation of dragons in all the different culutures at that time. I would find it hard to believe that the lore of dragons could have spread to each of them through mouth. The only way it could be in all the culture is if they were real.
I am not 100% sure on this but, Thinking about this in a factual way, I think that it is entirely possible that drangons did exist. |
Reptiles, generally, are pretty unnerving to most. Snakes, big lizards, crocodillians. Now, imagine one bigger. Lots bigger. And add breathing fire.
It's a lot like the terrorist situation these days, really. |
"Dragon Hide makes excellent armor... And sinew from any animal can be used to make bowstrings and rope. No bonuses other than being awesome. You don't f*** with people who make their rope out of dragons." - Osiris Memnoch
sorry this had to go here. i didn't buy the whole thing, they tried too hard to make it official looking. |

I asked my boyfriend one day if there actually were reptiles that blew fire. He laughed at me. That's the thing, we know dragons could exsist as a reptile but how could they fulfill their traditional stereotype of blowing fire?
|
I like dragons. In fact, I know they exist. If christians can say Jesus turned water in to wine, I can say dragons exist.
