So lastnight i dreamed my own death
i woke up at about 3am this morning from a dream was having
In the start i was being accused of a murder i didnt commit and strapped into a electric chair style piece of furniture minus the electricity and on a slow moving track. During this time i was debating on whether or not to yell im innocent before my inevetable demise. and felt it was too cliche to start yelling it out so i didnt..until the rack started moving down towards my execution, which happened to be a giant meatgrinder type instrument with saws grinding parts and knives. i didnt yell im innocent until about a foot away from the first knife like instrument that was to take my leg (it wasnt long enough to take both). they (the executioners) stopped the chair for a moment and i thought i got through to them as at that time a official of some sort had came in and said i was infact innocent. But the executioner shrugged and continued the death sentence. So first my leg was taken off and i screamed in pain bent over in the chair and closed my eyes. I knew not much farther was the grinder that was to take the rest of me so i put my head in front of me and...In a normal situation I or someone else , (i told a coworker about it today) would wake up right? i didnt and i could feel as well as you can feel in a dream my head being smashed and my body dying. i opened my eyes (in the dream) and i was just my conscience in a black area similar to a limbo like state and was htinking was this like what it was to be dead? and then i finally decided to wake up going oh shit did i just die in my sleep? thankfully it was not so, but i couldnt go back to sleep for a while after that. I posted this in paranoia because it freaked me out and i wanted to see what you all here had to say about it or have any similar dreams. Ive had the falling dreams before and other stuff but i have never actually slept all the way up to death and beyond and now im thinking i shouldve stayed sleeping to see just how far it would go. opinions? |

I've dreamt my own death once before and I still remember it vividly, even though it was almost ten years ago.
I had some sort of flu-like illness whilst on holiday in Greece and was very ill the night it happened. In the dream I was standing at a urinal, taking a piss, when I fell backwards and smacked my head on the tiled floor. Normally, something like this would trigger the end of the dream and I would wake up with a start but I continued to dream on for a good while after the 'death'. The rest of the dream was me staring down at my body on the white tiled floor while blood gushed out of my head and down a drain in the middle of floor. This scene sort of faded out and I woke up feeling as well as normal. The illness had completely left me overnight. Even to this day, whenever I think about that dream, I subsconciously scratch the back of my head as if I'm checking that it's still there. Last edited by jwoody; 12-17-2004 at 02:16 AM.. |

I had one dying dream before. I was in a jungle and it was twilight and raining. I slowly became aware that I was a soldier and that I was one of the scouts for my group. I vividly remember tripping a claymore that blew my lower legs off and I ended up lying on my back looking up into the leaves of the trees as the rain dripped down on me. I became aware of someone walking up to me who grabbed my hair and tilted my head back and then slit my throat. He walked away as I bled to death and continued to watch the rain fall off the leaves overhead and land on my eyes. I remember taking my last breath and then everything went dark and I woke up.
That son of a bitch disturbed me. Last edited by Captain Nemo; 12-17-2004 at 11:28 AM.. |

I've had dreams where I've attended my own funeral, and have been shot in a dream, too. They say that if you die in a dream, it's no longer a dream...you're actually dead. Not sure what that's all about. I remember dying in two dreams, and watching one resultant funeral.

Lots of symbols in that dream -- my handy dandy dream dictionary says:
To dream that you are wounded by a knife, suggests that you or someone is affected by hurtful remarks or malicious gossip. To dream that you die in your dream, symbolizes inner changes, transformation, self-discovery and positive development that is happening within you or in your life. Although such a dreams may bring about feelings of fear and anxiety, it is no cause for alarm and is often considered a positive symbol. Dreams of experiencing your own death usually means that big changes are ahead for you. You are moving on to new beginnings and leaving the past behind. These changes does not necessarily imply a negative turn of events. Metaphorically, dying can be seen as an end or a termination to your old ways and habits. So, dying does not always mean a physical death, but an ending of something. On a negative note, to dream that you die may represent involvement in deeply painful relationships or unhealthy, destructive behaviors. You may feeling depressed or feel strangled by a situation or person in your waking life. Perhaps your mind is preoccupied with someone who is terminally ill or dying. Alternatively, you may be trying to get out of some obligation, responsibility or other situation. To dream that you are being tortured, indicates that you are feeling victimized or helpless in some relationship or situation. To dream that your limbs are amputated, signifies abandoned talents and serious, permanent loss. It indicates your feelings of frustration, powerlessness and helplessness. Sometimes amputation may also represent a situation that you have been ignoring and has finally reached a crisis point. Dreaming that you legs are amputated suggests that you are limited in movements and where you want to go in life. To dream that you are a convict, suggests that some situation or relationship is making you feel restricted. You may be experiencing a loss of freedom in some area of your life. Alternatively, the dream may represent your feelings of shame and guilt. This dream image is trying to tell you to stop punishing yourself. To dream that you legs are wounded, signifies a lack of balance, autonomy, or independence in your life. You may be unable or unwilling to stand up for yourself. Perhaps you are lacking courage and refuse to make a stand.

I too have had such a dream where I die. There was a couple seconds (or an eternity?) of darkness...nothing, then I woke up (bolted upright like they always talk about in books and show in movies heh, first and only time I've had such a reaction from a dream).

Wow that sucks, you felt the pain too? I'm no expert but the fact that you had it and it freaked you out (and felt the pain leading to it) could be as simple as showing your fear of death. Maybe someone close you died recently? Simply saying that because perhaps the thought of death was in your mind. Maybe you've done something recently that you dont' feel too great about. If both of these are true, that makes sense too, heh.
I've had about 3 dreams now where I've died. I don't fear death, and thus they've never been. "holy shit I died" And yes I actually died and the dream kept going. Once I was in a great war and I got sniped in the back of the head. Instantly after I was at the gates of heaven.. heck in that dream I even spoke to god... Face to um.. being. heh Of course for me, I rarely if ever feel pain. You know how people will fall and fall and just before they hit the ground they wake up? Well, I hit the ground and keep sleeping. I dont' recall pain.. either too many cartoons or it once again deals with me not having fear of death.

I had one dream in which I may have died, but I'm not sure. I was drunk from the night before at the time, so it may not be meaningful, but I'm interested to see what the dream dictionary says.
I stepped into a house of mirrors. I looked around, and my reflection to my right drew a gun and shot me. I fell back, and someone walked toward me wearing stiletto heels, and walked right over me from my feet up to my head. I began ascending on a cloud of light and I asked out loud, "Am I dead?" to which a booming voice responded, "No fucking way." I found myself falling gently while laying on a beige rug that was on top of a larger grey rug, and landing with no impact on a maroon carpet that stretched to the edges of a quare room with a balcony around the edge. At this point someone woke me up by knocking on the door, otherwise I would have continued to dream. The strange thing is that I was aware that I was dreaming, and I could control what wasw happeninf like a typical lucid dream, but I let it play itself out to see what would happen. |

I had this dream once many years ago. I must've been around 7 or so. In the dream I was running with my parents, we were late for a flight. I couldn't run quite as fast as them and started to lag behind. Then much like a TV show, it stayed with my parents instead of me. They reached this long rickety wooden bridge that for some reason we had to cross to get to the plane. Underneath this bridge was a junkyard of sorts with all of these doberman pinscher type dogs that looked like they would kill anyone who fell in there. Just before I finally reached the bridge. Two men were crossing over casually, one saying to the other "i can't believe you built this bridge and that it has stayed up all these years." They crossed without any problem. When I started to cross the bridge, it began to shake and eventually broke. I screamed as a fell down to the floor of the junkyard with a thud. I then saw one of the dogs lunge forward and jump ontop of me while growling. As it reached me, everything went black. That is when I heard a voice say "Open your eyes (or Wake Up, i can't remember). It's not your time yet." Just then I woke up very abruptly almost shaking. I remember it took me a very long time to get back to sleep that night and the whole experience haunts me to this day.

I died once in my dream, I was around 10 at the time..
In my dream, I was a older than I was then, probably 16 or so. I was riding around in a car with a friend and we got in a bad car wreck and both of us died instantly. I became a ghost, but unable to contact those still in the living world. The rest of the dream consisted of me trying to make my presence known to my family, like many fictional ghosts are known to do: rattling things, moving things, that sort of thing. I guess my dream was more about me being a ghost than me dying. Still, it was a little creepy. I remembered the finer details about the dream and never forgot what the car looked like (it was red) and even what shirt I was wearing (tie dye, lol).

I also had 2 near death dreams around the same age period of my death dream. Both of them involved me getting bitten by a poisonous snake. One of which my brother had brought home with him to our apartment (he went through a phase of buying exotic pets.) and the other was on a field trip to some weird zoo where the animals just roamed free.
