Can't breathe.....

I woke up in the middle of the night because I couldn't breathe very easily. In the moments just before I was fully awake, I had the distinct feeling of being squeezed and it was a struggle for me to move my arms. After I woke up I was able to breathe again, but that lingering feeling of having been squeezed was still there. Since I was awake I figured it wasn't my imagination anymore, I actually felt as though I had been squeezed to the point where it was difficult to breathe. Could just be my brain fucking with me, but what a hell of a way to wake up, especially with the other things that have gone on in my house.

Perhaps it was a waking dream or night terror? Your brain was waking up (yet not fully awake), while your body continued resting.

I've had very vivid dreams that resulted in actual physical sensation. Your mind can do amazing things...

Like the old hag syndrome? Otherwise known as sleep paralysis? Check this link.

Remember when Homer had night terrors on the Simpsons? That was hilareous. Otherwise, best of luck with that.

Definatly sounds like sleep paralysis, I have had several times where I am awake just laying in bed unable to move my body at all with a sence of floating. I'm totally awake as I can hear conversations and other things happening in the room. Very creapy before I knew what it was, watched a show on the Discovery channel one night and they where talking about it and I was like "wow, thats what that is"

The worst case I ever had i was laying in bed and wasn't able to breath at all, finally I was able to and i jerked up gasping for breath. Scared the shit out of my girlfriend at the time. I tend to think my cases are agrevated by stress, as I had more cases than I can remember while I was dating that girl, but have only had a few since then.

when you sleep your body becomes paralyzed (but spelled correctly) you might have been transitioning between turning that off but were concious enough to realize what was going on.
