Okay. Simple Question

do you believe in the supernatural or not?

I do.

TSFM 07-31-2003 02:39 PM

I do not. Just doesn't seem... logical.

MacGnG 07-31-2003 02:40 PM

i do

denim 07-31-2003 02:41 PM

Define your terms. What do you mean by "supernatural"?

Antagony 07-31-2003 02:46 PM

I second denim's question for clarification.

micah67 07-31-2003 02:56 PM

Sitting here, in full daylight, surrounded by friends and co-workers (i.e. safe) - No, I don't believe in the supernatural.

Ask me again late at night when I'm alone and I just heard a strange sound from behind my closet door and you'll get a different answer.

vermin 07-31-2003 03:29 PM

The word supernatural implies something above and beyond the natural. If you're talking of angels and demons and spirits then I would consider them part of natural. Just not usual. Vampires and aliens and government conspiracies? Supernatural in the sense that no, I don't think they exist. Just an opinion.

crow_daw 07-31-2003 03:44 PM

Hey, WhoaitsZ, you finally got your board. Umm, I don't know if I believe in the supernatural or not. There's definitely some freaky shit out there, but I just haven't seen anything overly convincing for me yet.

lurkette 07-31-2003 03:54 PM

I don't believe in the supernatural, but I do believe there are beings, planes, occurences, that are beyond the explanatory capacities of our current state of science. I think some day we'll understand them, the way we now understand what seemed like "magic" to our ancestors of thousands of years ago.

Anybody care to share experiences of the supernatural?

*Nikki* 07-31-2003 04:02 PM

I believe that there are things we cannot see. Perhaps that can be called supernatural and perhaps we are not supposed to see them.

bobw 07-31-2003 04:16 PM

yep, but not all....

Frowning Budah 07-31-2003 04:42 PM

I don't disbelieve, but would like some personal experience.

snoop 07-31-2003 04:48 PM

Yes . . . and no . . . . . no wait . . . . . no . . and yes . . . . . arggggggg . . . bloody ghost won't leave me alone . . . .

GakFace 07-31-2003 04:48 PM

Supernatural... it is more of what is beyond the NORM of the natural... I see many of you see past this NORM, and thus to you it is not SUPERnatural... Awesome!

for a defination, I went to www.dictionary.com....

su·per·nat·u·ral ( P ) Pronunciation Key (spr-nchr-l)
adj.
1. Of or relating to existence outside the natural world.
Attributed to a power that seems to violate or go beyond natural forces.
2. Of or relating to a deity.
3. Of or relating to the immediate exercise of divine power; miraculous.
4. Of or relating to the miraculous.

see? outside of the NORM.... As we all have our own thoughts about what is normal to us. As you have all seen, me seeing spirits, and feeling their presence certainly is not unnatural to ME, but to the people at large, thats gotta be pretty freaky.

(Yes, Z got his board... As did I!!!! :D)

Katyblu 07-31-2003 05:26 PM

I believe in the supernatural ( the concept under a different word). There are things in this world that are difficult to explain... strange noises, visual tricks, mysterious winds and such.... there is no way to conventionally explain these things except that they are caused by something unseen and likely "unnatural."

GakFace, when you see spirits what do you see? I have a friend, and my mother has several friends, all of whom see/feel spirits. I'm interested to hear what manifestation they take for you.

--edit--

Just did a search for previous posts of yours and saw your explanation of what it feels like. I know from my friend's experience that it's a lot to live with - but what an interesting life you must lead, being open to these other mysteries.

I've only experienced things second-hand, through what my friend Michael has told me. A few snippets:

I had a recurring dream for most of my adult life that I was in the house I grew up in, trying desperately to lock all the doors and protect my family before something evil got in. I'd always try to scream for help but could only manage a weak little whisper. Michael told me that the next time I have the dream, I should remember that there are three very powerful protective spirits with me always, and they will protect me. I had the dream a few weeks later, and when the time came to scream I woke up full-on SCREAMING and haven't had that dream since.

Michael sees angels as "dancing lights," and apparently we are surrounded by many of them that are "attached" to us and they can travel back and forth between us and those around us. So, for example, sometimes I carry some of my mother's angels around with me. He can also see/feel them at great distances just by "listening" for them (sorry to mix metaphors, but how do you speak about a sixth sense?). They communicate things to him. He knew things about me, after just sitting with me in a room for 1/2 hour without me saying anything, having just met me, that he just couldn't have known. Shouldn't have known.

My mother's friend Pat was at my brother's memorial service, which we held in his favorite skate park. She said she could see a shadow that didn't belong to anybody physically present, and she saw my brother's name "Josh" written in "ghostly invisible letters" on the wall. She said she felt such relief from him when his friend Andy took his skateboard (the one he was riding when he was hit) for a skate at the end of the service. She also said that he, at that point, was still feeling stupid about the accident, and was worried about us.

I do believe that the spirits/angels that are around us both serve and protect us. I think they can protect us from death or guide us over, whatever we wish. I wish I could see them, talk to them, ask them things.

SaltPork 07-31-2003 06:46 PM

I do believe...yup, that way I don't feel crazy.

Thats EXACTLY what I was going to say. :)

GakFace 07-31-2003 06:53 PM

Yeah I'll slowly rip apart the Freaked out thread and get all that I said into their own threads where they fit and can expand upon.

As for communicating? Thats the weird part. It is different, there is no ONE way to communicate. Some people Speak to them... aloud, some speak mentally.. I speak thru emotions. It sounds more vague, and in a sense it is. I can't get specifics that words can convey, but when you think about it. delve into your emotions, past the simple happy, sad, and angry and into how and why... now think of how many that adds up to.. It can get pretty specific.

You said you wish you could ask them things, thats something even I have trouble with. Since I don't use words, I can only ask so much. Athough there are times when I'll "feel" them and I reply to them aloud and get a response back.. yes as a feeling, but its much like a foreign language. You hear the foreign word, and then translate it in your mind and then it makes sense.. all in a moments notice (if you're fluent) and thats how it works for me. I had some demons pull a prank on me, they thought it was hilarious even tho it scared me pretty well. I told 'em it wasn't funny, and all I felt was a group of them just laughing their asses off. To the point where I couldn't help but to laugh myself.

Your friend has a nice gift. To able to talk to them, and learn from them directly, about them and us... simply amazing.

K, I reazlize i'm going backwords.... but at the top.. :) You said you had the dream with the demonic presence, and that there are three powerful spirits, I took this in as the Trinity. I had my own dreams, and every time It got through my mind to look to God, the dream finally stopped occuring and never came back.

This is a forum I've been wanting for a long time, Z as well. We'll be more than happy to help you guys out with anything you need. Gimmie time and I will (as i said earlier) tear apart the freaked out thread, now that all those thoughts can belong freely in this nice new forum :)

cetacean 07-31-2003 06:59 PM

I believe we don't know ever a fraction of what can be known. Is that supernatural?

Tickford 07-31-2003 07:00 PM

I think that there are alot of things that we dont understand... and it gets passed off as supernatural....

hawkeye 07-31-2003 07:49 PM

Yes, I do.

Cynthetiq 07-31-2003 08:21 PM

one day i'll post about Mrs. Gladstone the ghost I used to share y bedroom with for 3 years....

dimbulb 07-31-2003 08:36 PM

no... don't believe in any of this.........

ninety09 07-31-2003 09:20 PM

I don't.

RWE 07-31-2003 09:47 PM

i don't believe in ghosts, angels, devils, vampires, zombies, demons, etc. It's perfectly possible that aliens exist, but I've seen no evidence to suggest so.

I notice someone mentioned government conspiracies, though. Now that...I do believe in (come on, you can call the war in Iraq a conspiracy, does Bush really want to fight terrorism or just cheap oil?) There are also radically different reports in independent and mainstream news sources too (and by "independent", I don't mean the national inquirer). There could be government-corporate conspiracies to keep the masses ignorant of certain information (I'm still referring to things like the on-goings in Iraq, and so-on).

WhoaitsZ 07-31-2003 09:49 PM

forgive me, guys. i didn't think i'd have to explain; i am used to talkimg to fellow weirdos.

i am way too tired to post much right now, but to me, supernatural is just that. above scientific fact. its not 'normal', ESP, appiritions, so on.

i think a lot of thimgs are simply not possibl t be seen by us, similiar to what nikki said.

also, say that not, people do NOT have any supernatural abilities at all: but do you believe there are aliens or spirits that do and maybe visit us?

The_Dude 07-31-2003 09:58 PM

nope.

slimshaydee 07-31-2003 10:44 PM

the only supernatural i know that exists is though supernatural beauties in hollywood who have to use surgery & a ton of make-up to look good

Slims 07-31-2003 10:56 PM

no, not in the sense that most people think of.

I do believe there is a lot of unexplained stuff out there, but I think there is an explanation for all of it that doesn't involve ghosts or demons.

water_boy1999 07-31-2003 10:57 PM

i see dead people.....

denim 08-01-2003 06:57 AM

You work in a morgue, right?

Bill O'Rights 08-01-2003 10:57 AM

I don't tink that I'd call it the supernatural, but I do believe in something...a higher level of existence...or something...

TheClarkster 08-01-2003 11:07 AM

There's gotta be something of that sort out there. It gives you something to blame weird occurences on, as to not feel crazy.

dy156 08-01-2003 11:54 AM

No, but I do not think we've reached the end of Science. There are still alot of things we will eventually figure out that we haven't yet.
I bet the fleas on a dogs back have a different view of the world than we do, and have no way of knowing what's going on outside their world. Similarly, we have no idea about some things, somewhere, that might explain the "supernatural"

CSflim 08-01-2003 02:35 PM

No.

I was trying to figure out how I was going to explain my own thoughts. Then I read Nikki's comment - a very simple summary of what I would have put down.

fuzzix 08-02-2003 05:30 AM

I don't, yet it fascinates me anyway.

dogma13554u 08-02-2003 09:13 AM

yeah. I've been studying science all my life, and there are just so many things it can't explain at all.

WhoaitsZ 08-02-2003 11:27 AM

thanks for sharing, folks.

Mr. Spacemonkey 08-02-2003 06:10 PM

I do believe in the supernatural. A simple answer to a simple question.

Looften 08-03-2003 03:59 PM

I don't believe in the SUPERnatural, but there is always more to discover.

xxmsaxx 08-03-2003 04:29 PM

well I think many things as far as spirits and the such all come back to energy. There are many natural forces we do not understand. The fact that some people can communicate and/or tap into energies and use them for thier own discoveries (like the guys the FBI hires to find bodies and shit) tells me that we are in a state of evolution of the mind. Some folks are ahead of the evolutionary curve and thier bodies can feel, sense, or in some way interact with energy we cant understand. All life has energy and all energy has force so why is it so unbelievable that our energy will take some form when the mortal shell is no longer here. Oh ya and I also believe in aliens and government coverups. Heh you gotta be wierd to not IMHO.

Jesus Malverde 08-04-2003 12:55 AM

Yeah I believe in the supernatural. There is just too much weird bullshit that goes on all over the world. I don't believe in psychics, though.

dragonhawk 08-04-2003 01:30 PM

I believe...

bender 08-05-2003 11:59 AM

Who knows......
the verdic isn't in yet.

Nafter 08-09-2003 02:42 PM

The first thing i think when i see that question is no, i feel like there would be more hard evidence in the world if supernatural beings exist. I think the mind hears stories and tales and when something unexpected happens it finds something to fit to a extent. The idea of supernatural beings has been around for a long time and maybe there would be more solid evidence, more time and energy put in to researching it than fringe groups who never seem to find too much proof and people seeming to just make money off the whole thing by playin to peoples fears.
just some ramblings heh, im a bit tired and these are just my first thoughts, i havnt really thought about it properly so ill ponder some more and see if i can come up wit a better reply :) im willing to be convinced if anyone has some good info on the whole idea

macmanmike6100 08-09-2003 05:03 PM

"Supernatural" is far too broad a term.

skysooner 08-09-2003 09:23 PM

I don't for the most part although there are some things that I don't think we completely understand. My wife loves John Edward (and I think he is a big faker). I'm understanding about her belief in him until she wants to spend our money to go to New York to see his show and then I become less understanding :)

merkerguitars 08-11-2003 04:15 AM

Yes I do....cause there is lots of stuff that happens that cannot be perfectly explained.
