Bigfoot - fake or real?

I want to believe (thank you Mulder), but I just can't. I think that humans have great imaginations. I think that Bigfoot could have been based on something real at one point (genetic anomoly?), but now its just an urban legend.

I'd like to think its just some hermit out in the woods...

dlish 07-10-2008 02:14 AM

its Real i tell you..

havent you seen Delirious by Eddie Murphy?

Jetée 07-10-2008 07:42 AM

Given that I have had a reawakening in TV-watching after two years, I still stick to the formula of finding and enjoying documentaries. The new genre of reality-based docudramas such as 'AxMen' or 'Ice Road Truckers' or 'Carrier' really have captured my fervent attention, but that is not truly on point. The point is that the History Channel is arguably the best network on the American market. To correlate the topic, 'MonsterQuest' is a rightly-intriguing new(?) series which chronicles the folklore and mythical surroundings revolving around certain locales where the general consensus agree to have witnessed bizarre scenarios. Recent topics that come to mind are that of 'SkunkApe' in the south east U.S., bigfoot in the northwest, and the Grassman in central US (it could be in the midwest, but I am not too familiar).

I admire the portayal of the similarities, and the multitudinal techniques and experiments trying to verify the existence of these supposed creatures. I have not had such an encounter, but with these experiences dating back more than 100 years, and in some cases, centuries old, it it rather remarkable that the issue has not been resolved as of yet, neither proven or debunked.

It would be a tragic shame, given the current state of times, that we finally conclude the search of the legendary "Sasquatch of the Woods" when we no longer have any forests.

"Grassman" was filmed around here (Cambridge/Guernsey County) in SE Ohio. There is a large group of people who meet regularly to discuss Bigfoot. Salt Fork State Park in Guernsey County is where a lot of the sitings occur. I know that an acquaintence of mine said that he and his wife saw "Bigfoot" at the state park, and he is a well respected member of the community. I think that in certain parts of the world, an anomoly like this could happen, but I am not sure in the USA is one of those spots...

It's very unlikely that there's an undiscovered bipedal humanoid living in the woods of North America. Sure, it's possible, but like all very unlikely things, why waste energy on it? Unless it's entertaining for you from a science fictioney point of view.

Poppinjay 07-10-2008 09:44 AM

The History Channel is very good. It's one of the few niche channels that doesn't run infomercials until 10am every morning. Even the Food Network does that.

There's a guy in my neck of the woods who hosts a radio show called "Sasquatch Watch". He truly believes Bigfoot is showing up in northern Virginia, of all places. I think he would be easy to see, considering all the forests have been replaced with self satisfied yuppie mansions.

Shauk 07-10-2008 10:02 AM

I'm real, why do people insist on giving me silly names though?

As it would happen, I am in Northern Virginia today :paranoid: (near Fairfax, still have family there, or here, now).

Hopefully I stay safe enough in my solitary rural outings so that I live to see myself back in Bahia for my studies abroad.

It's because you shaved. You're not as recognizable anymore.

MSD 07-10-2008 04:48 PM

I used to, but there's really no hard evidence I've seen. I accept that there's a lot of wooded area that hasn't been thoroughly checked, but until there's more evidence, I would have to say that I don't think there's an undiscovered bipedal primate out there.

except he missed a spot on his chin.

dead give away

LoganSnake 07-11-2008 08:58 AM

Well, if there can be a tribe of people that has only recently been discovered, why can't there be something we haven't seen before in the woods? It might not be in the US anymore, but the world has thousands of acres of uncharted forests. Who knows?

Baraka_Guru 07-11-2008 10:04 AM

Bigfeet have to be real. Who else do you think is responsible for unicorn husbandry?

LoganSnake 07-11-2008 10:13 AM

El Chupa Nibre.

Silly Baraka. Everyone knows that the unicorns hatch from unfertilized Loch Ness Monster eggs. I mean unicorns are a purely European creature.

Bigfeet are shaved Roswell aliens, which I guess makes Shauk an alien. Gonna show us your green card there, buddy?

Gosh, I hope that this thread doesn't trigger another one of Pan's immigration rants. ;)

I'm telling you, Bigfeet harvest the eggs from ol' Nessie and bring them to a floating hatchery and stables. And when the unicorns are ready, the Pegasi bring them down to the Faerie Forests to frolic and fertilize the cellophane flowers of yellow and green.

Honestly. Ask Shauk. He gets all his beat ideas from unicorn trots, canters, and gallops.

Sure, but that's exactly my point - there *could* be all sorts of things - but without hard evidence....

Oh, and wrt that amazon tribe you're referring to - the tribe has been known about for awhile, but never contacted - very different things.

Huh, learn something every day. I never thought I'd be on the internet with a shaven Bigfoot that steals musical inspriation from unicorns, but here we are.

Isn't it more interesting that way? In any case, I'm willing to bet that there are some monstrous creatures lurking in our oceans. Size-wise. I mean, how many marine life gets discovered each year? I can't wait until the technology is advanced enough to explore the depths with ease and with plenty of illumination.

ottopilot 07-11-2008 08:45 PM

So who's the hairy guy on those beef jerky commercials?

thats funny..cos i thought that a pelican flies them in on a bedsheet and leaves them on Chubaccas door step..

which gets me thinking...why isnt there a female equivelant of Chubacca?

LoganSnake 07-12-2008 02:02 PM

There is. You just can't tell them apart because of the fur.

Turns out that was media sensationalism. They've been discovered, but only recently were they photographed. They've also made past contact with other tribes.

Yeah, it's possible, and I certainly won't discount the possibility of new species, but I think that most documented accounts have been misidentifications and hoaxes.

MiSo 07-13-2008 02:03 PM

as real as crop circle's, chupa cabra, santa clause, tooth fairy, boogie man, abominable snow man, lochness monster, etc........

Well, sure there are - it was only a few years ago that the giant squid was only hinted at. There's probably other 'stuff' down there. But there's a difference between expecting to find new and interesting creatures down in the depths of the ocean and unexplored places on earth and believing in big foot and the loch ness monster.

ScottKuma 07-15-2008 10:39 AM

If they can't accurately track hogs in the wild (and from what I've seen on the Discovery Channel of late, they really can't!), then why can't there be a small population of hominid-esque creatures out in the wilderness?

I think MOST of the sightings are bunk, however.

ChrisJericho 07-15-2008 03:01 PM

I think it's unlikely in North America that a bigfoot exists. We really haven't found any extremely large mammals recently in North America and with the amount of hunters out there I think someone would have snagged one by now.

I think there might be a slightly better chance of discovering one in some deep asian jungle, but even then it's pretty slim.

I think most of the big foot sightings in North America are bears.

Sure, there can be, but everything so far has been debunked and discredited. I'm open to the possibility.
