sites where you can download music from
I like the No Depression site, http://www.nodepression.net/music.html, it has a bunch of mp3s of alt country musicians. I think it gets updated monthly.
more indie type stuff can be found here, http://thephoenix.com/onthedownload/ anyone have any other sites that have full mp3s available as free downloads? |
i think there was a thread on mp3 blogs a while ago. some sites were listed there. it's hard to keep up, new ones keep popping up. but here is a big list of them.
http://tofuhut.blogspot.com/2005/05/...-here-you.html for other types of downloading sites.... subpop has a weekly single on itunes, i think. i signed up for the podcast a while back. kind of a roundabout way to getting mp3s, but it works http://www.subpop.com/multimedia/freeradiosp.php i used to check out epitonic http://epitonic.com/ |
Here's a link a bunch of places:
http://www.redferret.net/pmwiki/pmwiki.php I bookmarked it a while back, but I noticed some of the sites may no longer exist, but it will give a good start. Also: www.fluxblog.org www.dmusic.com - for fluxblog, don't forget to check all of the sites they link to, and branch out using those sites, etc. Hope it helps ! cya, will. |
Personally, I use altavista to find most any specific song I'm looking for. Most work that's ever needed from me was having to look in the page's code.

Not quite free, but if you go to www.allofmp3.com, it's this legal russian site, and they charge based on amount of data sent (higher quality costs more than really crappy quality), but on average it costs about $1 to $1.25 to download an entire album at 192Kbps. It's guaranteed good quality (in fact you can choose your quality and the website rips that quality from CD). Kinda cool, worth depositing $10 and checking some stuff out. songs are like 8 to 10 cents usually.

iTunes, but only because I'm a die hard Mac fan. I wish they'd change their format.....

I plead the fifth....

I have a handful of torrent sites that serve the need when I want to check out a new album. I combine it with Pandora or last.fm to get recommendations and regularly try out new stuff.
Other than that, I don't really. I buy a lot of albums, but it's always stuff that's off the beaten path, as it were. There's a record shop downtown where I can go and the proprietor will usually have some good recommendations for me. He also carries stuff on vinyl, which would be great if I ever got around to grabbing a turntable. |
there's already a thread or two on this somewhere but my searching skill is having some issues today...
www.garageband.com is one of my favorite places to get stuff... www.amazon.com also has a lot of free downloads |
audiolunchbox.com has some freebies every week...they tend to be indie/folk and smaller labels. good for artist discovery.
