2006 Hall of Fame Class

Sabbath, Pistols inducted into Rock Hall
Quote:

NEW YORK (AP) -- Black Sabbath, Miles Davis and the Sex Pistols are among five musical legends to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its induction ceremony March 13 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan, the organization announced Monday. (Read a profile of Black Sabbath.)

Also to be inducted into the class of 2006: 1980s New Wave band Blondie and Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss, who founded A&M records in 1962, will receive a lifetime achievement award in the non-performer category.

Inductees into the side-men category will be announced at a later date.

Musicians, industry professionals and journalists vote on the nominations. Artists are eligible to be inducted into the Rock Hall after at least 25 years have passed since their first record was released.

Not bad choices: Blondie, Skynyrd, Miles Davis, the Sex Pistols, and Black Sabbath -- I'd love to see this event televised... :)

Wow... didn't think Blondie was gonna make it in this quick...

It woulda been a hoot to see Miles Davis up jammin to 'Paranoid' with Black Sabbath!

All great choices, even Herb Alpert. That'll be one wild night.

I'm kind of tired of hearing they're getting the nod, only to not make it in year after year. That's what gave me the impression that the RnRHoF is as much of a joke as the Grammys.

I can't believe it's taken them this long to induct Miles Davis, and yet Blondie are in... the mind boggles.

And Herb Alpert as a non-performer? We're talking Mr Spanish Flea here, people. As on-hold muzak goes, it's never been topped!

Johnny Rotten says, Kiss this, Hall
Quote:

LOS ANGELES, California (Reuters) -- Former Sex Pistols lead singer Johnny Rotten has nothing but disdain for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which is why he won't be attending Monday's induction ceremony.

The singer, who now goes by the name John Lydon, appeared as a guest on ABC's late-night talk show "Jimmy Kimmel Live" Friday, and was asked why he and his two surviving partners from the ground-breaking punk band were snubbing the hall.

"They never cared who we were," Lydon said. "They never bothered to correct the incredible fatal, bad mistakes about our legend and legacy in their museum and up until now, they've rejected our nomination for three years running, and now they want a piece of us.

"Well, guess what? Kiss this!" he said, making a rude gesture.

"When I began as a Sex Pistol, there was no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and suddenly this organization is put on top of us like we have an obligation to them. Well, it's the other way around. Don't use my name to prop up your ... nonsense."

When it was first announced the group would be inducted into the Hall of Fame, the Sex Pistols declined the honor with a coarse message posted on their Web site.

Other inductees into the Hall of Fame this year include Black Sabbath, Blondie, Miles Davis, Lynyrd Skynyrd and music executives Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss.
I love a good sport... :D

So they didn't get in for three years in a row, now they do get in and they are pissed that tehy didn't get in the first try? I'm not a huge fan of the sex pistols... but i think the hall is a pretty big honor... and they should be pleased they got in now...

I have issues with the R&R HOF. I don't understand if the museum is in Cleveland why the Hell do the induction ceremonies get held in NYC?

I mean that would be like the NFL HOF having their ceremonies in Chicago and not Canton, or MLB having theirs in L.A. and not Cooperstown.

I just think it's another swipe at Cleveland. Maybe this is why the R&R HOF is in such trouble financially and getting people to visit it, they have a great facility, the fans voted for it to be in Cleveland and yet it seems like the powers that be just do not want to acknowledge Cleveland.

This almost erases the fact that Mr. Lydon appeared on "I'm a Celebrity, Get me out of Here!"
