what's your favorite U2 song/concert?

U2 seems to be holding strong with the debut of the new album. What are some of your favorite songs or concerts?

I really like Johnny Cash's cover of "One", but I despise the original version.

My favorite U2 is "These Guys are from England and Who gives a Shit" by Negativland. Of course U2 sued Negativland over that...thanks U2 for ruining sampling for everyone!

What are yours?

I'm not trying to be a bitch here, but you've been posting a few threads here and there asking us for things, but you give nothing back. When you post a thread, give an example please.

I don't think I could pick a favorite U2 song. They have too many to choose from.. With our Without You, Where the Streets Have No Name, One...

I saw them in concert in early 2002. AWESOME. So so good...

Excellent choice, I bought that album, as well as the book "Fair Use: The Story of the Letter U and the Numeral 2".

I'm not a U2 fan, but I do like "The Sweetest Thing". What I really like about this song in particular is the heavily accented beat on the 'and' of eight.

Wow, that last sentence looks weird when you type it out. It sounds fine out-loud, however.

And Averett, keep up the good fight!

That's ok. I don't mind you saying I am not contributing. I guess posting new threads and getting a lot of response isn't important. Anyway, I am new and I am trying to get an idea of what people around here like and what I can learn from some of you all.
Don't worry, you will get to know me a little better as time progresses. I love OOne by the way. Really anything U2 is good for me since you ask.
I will try to express myself more I get to know what everybody wants to talk about.
If you really want to know the truth, I am at work and I have to keep checking behind me to be sure I don't get in trouble doing something other than work. The Tilted Forum Project is go so addictive. And no, I am not looking at the Titty Board, because I have yet to get access. I mentioned in my very first post in Newbies explaining that I was here before and just lurked around. I am trying to get involved.

I've seen them in concert three times in three different venues, all in Philadelphia. The first was the "best". In the old JFK Stadium, which was condemned about a week later (ok, maybe it was a month) and was the last event ever held there (I believe). Little Steven opened and Bruce showed up for one of the encores. I still get chills remembering tens of thousands of people singing "how long should we sing this song" as we all exited the stadium about 15-20 minutes after the final, final encore. Good times.

When I decide to post a new thread, I usually write the body in a text editor so that I get the wording just right, and make sure I haven't misspelled anything, then I come over to TFP and post it. It will look more like work that way. (And don't forget to search first!)

I'm showing my age here. but early in my college career (83 or 84) I had a friend down the hall from me who told me I just had to hear this amazing band from Ireland.

The album (and it was on vinyl) was War - the band was U2 - and she was right, it was fantastic - not a bad song on the album... We went shopping that week and picked up Boy and October -- (i still have that vinyl somewhere too)

Sunday Bloody Sunday (War) and I Fall Down (October) will always be my favorite songs. They were a great band then- somewhere along the line, they got too big for their britches and lost their roots... yeah they got "famous" but I really think their music suffered.

I like 'The Unforgetable Fire' I just love the flow of the song. As for concerts, I like the ZooTV tour. I still remember when Bono was dressed like a Vegas cowboy, singing Desire.

For the sake of convenience I always say my favorite song in general is "One." But in truth I find it nearly impossible to pick a truly favorite song, as I like some songs more than others dependent on my mood. It's like trying to pick between Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. I can't do it and I won't do it. I love nearly everything they do, from "I Will Follow" to "Vertigo." So as long as they play it, I will listen.

It's funny, you can almost pick out which decade people graduated on by the U2 songs/albums they like.

Elvis presley in America.
Stories for boys.
Electric Co.

I pretty much have all U2's cover versions, usually found on the CD single B sides.
All awesome. Some amazing live duets with Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen.

i am not in general a fan: given a choice between u2 and negativland, the latter would win every time.

i do have a weakness for "wire" on the unforgettable fire (i think)--i like the eno production.

I discovered U2 only in the past few years, but I really love most of the stuff I've heard. I can't choose just one song though...I love Desire, In A Little While, Mysterious Ways, and With or Without You. I haven't purchased a CD in ages, but I will eventually get my lazy butt to a store and buy a couple of theirs. They are coming in concert sometime this year, but I couldn't find anyone to go with
