anyone listen to bossa nova?
I am listening to an album of songs by Joao Gilberto. Even though I can't understand any of the words, I like it very much. Is there anyone who is familiar with this tyoe of music who may be able to give me any suggestions of what I should check out?
(or will this thread end up at the bottom of the heap...?) |
Bossa nova is amazing. It's my favorite style of jazz to play. Check out anyone doing the jazz standard "Blue Bossa". Tito Puente or Mongo Santamaria probably have stuff that run along the lines of what youre looking for. Also, a song called "Corcavado (Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars)" is one of my favorites.

Thanks! I'll certainly check these out. I'm pretty excited about this new world of music awaiting me.

i really dig brazilian stuff. it's just so damn cool.
i listen to laurindo almeida. his music is more instrumental. i haven't been able to find too many other artists, but i've got some compilations. |
Two words. Stan Getz

Alright: the key album to get (which it sounds like you might already have) is titled "Getz/Gilberto"
Apart from that I'm not sure of specific albums, but the person who pretty much invented the style is Antonio Carlos Jobim, so anything with him involved should be right up your alley. Also listen to his other collaborations with Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto. |
