Handsome Boy Modeling School - White People (Don't trust the reviews!)
Handsome Boy Modeling School (a side-project by production demi-gods Prince Paul and Dan the Automator) have released their follow-up to their ass-kicking first album, So...How's Your Girl?, and simply put: I love it. The line-up of guests is astounding, and includes Del tha Funkee Homosapien, Mike Patton, Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand, Cat Power, Omar Rodriguez Lopez of The Mars Volta, Jack Johnson, Tim Meadows, RZA, and many others.
I have issue with the addition of Mike Shinoda and Chester Barrington from Linkin Park, but I simply don't like Linkin Park, and all in all, it doesn't take away from the album. I recommend this to fans of trip-hop, underground hip-hop and acid jazz. And the intros and spoken tracks are fuckin hilarious. |
White People got negative reviews? I love it, and i've seen nothing bad written about it.

I've seen not-too-flattering reviews of it, enough to make me not want to check it out. Stupid reviewers! Now that I see real people talking about it, I think I'll check it out.
Wait... you are real people, right? |
it's an okay album, but really does pale in comparison to their first. 'Breakdown' is a good song, though.

I bought it and listened to it several times. I'd give it a resounding "eh". It might have gotten an "eh?" if it wasn't full of skit crap. I'll never understand the skits, the only ones that are any good are the MF Doom ones. As for HBMS, I'll bring it out in six months and give it another try.

saw it on some top ten lists and it got a good review in filter
i thought it was good; more vocal variety than i usually hear in this type of music. the skits do get old though. but i never thought guido was funny in the first place. |
