Rock Beats?

Hey everyone!

I am a hard of hearing person who enjoys music. However, I'm looking for rock beats without words, kind of like Karaoke but not exactly. Why? I concentrate so hard on trying to understand what the singers are saying, I don't really enjoy the music, and I just get frustrated.

Classical is no good, 1) I don’t like it, and 2) Some of the high-pitched notes in there sound like silence to me.

So anyway, what kind of rock beats? I like stuff like Godsmack, Metallica, Rammstein, people like them. I KINDA like The Crystal Method, and KMFDM, but it’s not exactly rock, more like techno...

So anyway, what would they call this stuff, and who are some good artists?

Thanks for your time, have a good 'un!

EDIT: More details

Try Eskimo's in Egypt by Rammstein. Cool instrumental song.

skinnymofo 12-26-2004 12:03 AM

nevermind. i mustve missed the no vocals part

Nachtschleicher 12-26-2004 12:49 AM

Dosen't have to be NO vocals, but how about few vocals? Hey, if it's a tight song, post it anyway!

EDIT: Typo

Electric Light Orchestra - Fire On High
Pink Floyd - Terminal Frost, Marooned
Traffic - Glad (not sure but I think this one has no words)
Yes - Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)

Bands like Godspeed You Black Emperor, Do Make Say Think, Explosions In The Sky are all all instrumental bands. No words just music and their all really good bands.

Mum don't have many lyrics. Sigur Ros have great lyrics but they're in Icelandic and Hoplandish so if you can't understand them does that count? The music of Sigur Ros is some of the most beautiful you'll ever hear. Hmm Emerson Lake & Palmer. I'll have to think for a little bit I'm sure I'll be able to think of a couple more.

Asta!!

In Flames and Pantera have some really good stuff. I myself don't care much for lyrics I'm more of an instrumental person.

I feel your pain - I'm severely hard of hearing too. I've enjoyed listening to Breaking Benjamin, as well as percussion music by Evelyn Glennie- it's classical, but it's so much more spiced up, and you can really feel everything on there. I like listening to that one with my hearing aid out.

dream theater

amon tobin has great percussive timing
rob zombie can lay down a groove, but i don't know what to think about his music
dungen is a cool rock band from sweden; no need to worry about their lyrics

MacGuyver 12-29-2004 11:28 PM

Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Its not the classical you expect. It's METAL CLASSICAL!

Based on what you posted you would probably dig Static-X. Lots of driving, beat-centric songs and the singing really is not that important. Ditto for the godfathers, Ministry.

Check out 65 Days Of Static - The Fall of Math. It's one of my favorite albums of 2004. It's got a lot of heavy guitar driven songs backed up with electronics. The end result is something that sounds fairly different from most of what's out there and very awesome. There's also little to no lyrics in the album (about 10 seconds of talking in the song Retreat Retreat, but I can't think of anything other than that).

do you enjoy drum and bass or hip-hop? both are heavy on the bass, and Dn'B does some really interesting things with mangling the bass. early to mid 90's was when it was in its prime.

if you are interested in electronic music even a little, i reccomend this sitehttp://www.ishkur.com/music/#

Iron Maiden - Losfer Words (Big 'Orra) off of Powerslave is really good.
Dream Theater has lyrics, but their songs are so damn long there are 5 minutes of a song with out anything spoken.

You like Godsmack?!? DAMN YOU! DAMN YOU TO HELL!!

K-Wise 01-07-2005 01:12 AM

^ Where is your signature from Painted?

Nachtschleicher 01-07-2005 01:37 AM

Painted, Godsmack is okay. Some of the beats are cool, like in the "Alive" song. You know... the one from the US Navy commercial? Yeah, that one.

Anyway, what's wrong with Godsmack?

As a Mod and someone that has found a great home here...

It's threads like this that make me swell with pride that I'm apart of something like TFP. This is the only place on the net where you can find this amount of understanding and blind trust.

But in response you your question. I got nothing.

BOARDS OF CANADA. god, buy "Geogaddi" now.
Also, RJD2's newest, "Since we Last Spoke" is a pretty interesting blend of rock/funk/soul with very few lyrics, but amazing beats.
