esp when he screams "NO NO NO NO NO" in the fast bit. |
It's got to be "This is what she's like" by Dexy's Midnight Runners
The whole song is Kevin Roland describing what his love is NOT like. "you know the kind of people who put creases in their old Levi's. The type that use expressions like tongue and cheek. The ones who parade all they're possessions and put super and fabulous after every sentence they spit out.....well she's not like that" when he does describe her it's just a series of notes emenating from his entire being (in my humble opinion - on par with any Aretha Franklin Ad Lib) A very close second would have to be Sidney Bechet "Love For Sale" the only song I know of that has brought this Grown Man to tears and made me weak at the knees. Do yourself a favour and get those songs now! P.S. "This is what she's like" has THE BEST "1.2.3.4" in music history. (Sorry Bruce) |
Smashing Pumpkins - Disarm
Rush - Tears Babyface - The Day (may be the prettiest song I've ever heard) Alan Parsons Project - Time, Don't Let It Show Elton John - Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word, Daniel, Candle In The Wind Guns & Roses - November Rain Lynyrd Skynyrd - Simple Man Boys II Men - It's So Hard To Say Goodbye To Yesterday Voices Of Theory - Say It (Heh..yeah ) Common feat. Faith No More - The Real Thing
I listened to this song many, many times before I finally understood it. And when I did finally get it, man... I can never go back to that place now. |
K-Wise is on the right track for my generation, the early 80's born. Good Silverchair selections btw. "Anna's Song" and "I miss you love" are great. I would add "Anthem for the year 2000".
The Verve Pipe - The Freshman ^That is one I play for chics whenever I feel like being smooth. Also, Our Lady Peace - Is anybody home? |
Steve Kimock Band - Tongue N' Groove

Good move pimpin, haha. I pull more of a "Well I can't really play guitar very good but..." and then just go right into it. They always seem to know the words too. Like you said, good shit. |
Yeah thats true haha they do always seem to know the words to it. Brian Vanderark musta got a lotta tail in the 90's. Song is sad as hell though when ya think about what it's really about.

As much as I hate to admit it, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica has always had an effect on me.
*hangs head in shame* |
OK, I've got more:
The Gathering - Saturnine Tool - Third Eye Downstage - Penniless Isis - Carry Megadeth - Tornado of souls Metallica - Nothing else matters Muse - Showbiz (the bass is just... inconceivable) Pantera - Cowboys from Hell Tool - Prison sex Paradise Lost - Year of summer Portishead - Roads Puddle of Mudd - Blurry Radiohead - Street Spirit Savatage - Summer's rain Sentenced - Bleed in my arms Sentenced - With bitterness and joy Deep Purple - Soldier of fortune Bruce Dickinson - Tears of the dragon Gary Moore - Still got the blues U2 - With or without you (get sad before listening to this) |
Guns and Roses- November Rain
Puddle of Mud-Control Enuff Z'Nuff-The Beast Queen-Who wants to live forever thats just off the top of my head Im sure more will come to me later |
Pantera - Cemetary Gates = Great song you can just sit and chill to. Not too heavy and the acoustic gives a great feel to it until it gets a bit heavier.
Type O Negative - Angel = Another great song to reflect, in addition to being a good romantic song Tristania - My Lost Lenore = What can I say, sad song but great. My Dying Bride - Cry of Mankind My Dying Bride - Sear Me III My Dying Bride - She is the Dark My Dying Bride probably make some of the saddest songs ever. |

Shoot, does it have to be a song? What moves me is Shostakovich's prelude and fugue in E minor. Tell me that doesn't move you. |
id have to agree farther up when most of the NIN catalog is moving in some way, mostly really saddening
the more prominent of the NIN have got to be , Hurt, Gave Up, The Downward Spiral (song, not whole album) Other songs i would have to Say "Metro" by System of a Down, i read the lyrics to this one without music and it nearly brought a tear to my eye. Then theres a lot of the Alice in chains Dirt album thats pretty moving, most already being mentioned earlier Jeremy, by PJ and this one may sound funny but, Iron Man the Sabbath version and the remade busta rhymes/ozzy version "This means war (Iron Man)" |
Burden In My Hand - SoundGarden
One Mic - Nas BMBBO - Trevor Rabin Knockin' On Heaven's Door - Bob Dillan (or the cover by Bon Jovi/Bruce Springsteen/Eric Clapton) What A Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong Take A Picture, After The Rain - Mya I generally choose artists that I like to listen to by how much I "feel" their songs, and so there are a LOT of songs that illicit that type of response in me, but the ones listed are the big ones. |

My Dying Bride - For my fallen angel  |
Ben Harper - God Fearing Man
Nothing like Ben Harper jamming on his Weissenborn (lap guitar) singing about fearing god. I was tripping my ass off on some shrooms one night in college with a bunch of buddies. My friend put this song on and It just clicked something in my head. I guess Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb has the same sort of, I was really fucked up listening to it and it just made sense type of feeling even now.. |

james taylor - fire and rain
that has got to be the most moving song made. |
Oh God...not two days ago I was listening to U2's new album, specifically the song "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own," which is about Bono's dad who passed away. And there are a few lines that had me sobbing:
Sing, you're the reason I sing You're the reason why the opera is in me... Where are we now? I've got to let you know A house still doesn't make a home Don't leave me here alone... And it's you when I look in the mirror And it's you that makes it hard to let go Sometimes you can't make it on your own... I'm afraid every time I hear this song I cry...I usually at least tear up...I'm tearing up right now...and it's their next single. Sigh. I can't win. |

When I think of songs that I can feel, I always come up with two songs by Saves the Day; Firefly and Nightingale. Firefly because only Chris Conley could make a song about drunken sex in an alley sound so damn beautiful, and Nightingale because of the passion oozing from both the lyrics and the music. Just listening to these songs keeps me convinced that he is one of the best lyricists in modern music.
|
Keine Lust, Ohne Dich and Mein Teil by Rammstein are one of the most strongest songs I ever heard. In Mein Teil, you can actually dissolve in the song, just forget about everything around you. Dunno if it makes sense.
|
Flugufrelsarinn, Ny batteri, Hjartad hamast, Vidrar vel til loftarasa, Olsen olsen by Sigur Ros off of Agaetis byryjun...I always listen to those 5 in a row and usually by the end or middle of Olsen Olsen I'm asleep heh. The music is just so beautiful and calming. Might not make sense that a song that moves me puts me to sleep but I love to sleep to music sometimes heh.

One of my favorite songs, by The Marvelous Three. Butch Walker, the lead singer still plays it live, on the piano, even though it was a rock power anthem.
It's about the guys in the band breaking up, it was the last song they wrote, recorded and performed live together: Cigarette Lighter Love Song I know you're not asleep I can feel you moving over there You've been playing with the seam In your worn out underwear My lips are raw as hell From biting on them just to stay awake It's not like I'm gonna need them, you won't be around To see them bleed and break Chorus: All that I do, comes back to you So I'll just think about you 'til there's nothing in my head All I can do, is try not to screw this up again And just be friends, I'd rather be dead I drove out of east Atlanta With a headache the size of my car I called to say I was okay 'Cause I know how you are I'm like a movie without an ending You know I've got nowhere to go And it makes me wanna throw up To see you wanna give up More than you'll ever know Bridge: Everything's supposed to have a happy ending But the record keeps skipping and the needle keeps bending Like the road I'm driving to the bridge that has no end I wanna take back everything that I've broken But the bridges behind me are burning and smokin' I guess this is the end |
