Check the Tilted Music forum.
I'm sure they would be glad to help you out there. |
Check out Gov't Mule. I love these guys.
|
yeah gov't mule is awesome...if you like that try widespread panic, phish, moe.
|
Pink Floyd is the best band ever.

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists.
My current fanboyish obsession. Free, legal mp3s at www.epitonic.com and www.lookoutrecords.com. |
Broken Social Scene is a great experimental-indie-rock band, definitely a little trance in there as well... I bet you'd love them. I bought their latest record, You Forgot it in People, and it's just fantastic.
|
^ My brother in law was checking them out at my house just the other day. He has a shitty internet connection at home and we have DSL so thats why. He discovered that the bassist of the band Do Make Say Think (whom we recently saw in Austin on the 8th of this month) is also a member of Broken Social Scene. I think thats pretty cool. The dude blew my mind when I saw them live. First time I'd ever REALLY heard their music. The band that opened for them (Midlake) we also quite good.

Something else to try would be the new Green Day CD, as well as anything by Alice In Chains... Good luck :) |
I'll also recomend Broken Social Scene, recently I've been listening to their album "You Forgot it in People" a lot. Other than that, I'd really recommend Franz Ferdinand and Interpol off the top of my head.

Great alt. rock band. Lots of downloads. |
The Weakerthans - Left and Leaving or Reconstruction site
Lemon Jelly - anything Daft Punk - Discovery (Homework is good too though) Royksopp - Melody A.M Kings of Convienance - any The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi versus the Pink Robots enjoy! |
Since you said Hip-Hop you need to listen to the following as soon as possible..matter of fact before anything else.
The Roots Wu-Tang Clan Tribe Called Quest Talib Kweli Mos Def Pharoahe Monch Common (especially Common) Binary Star K-Otix Dead Prez Gangstarr Canibus Sub Concious Dilated Peoples Aesop Rock & Sage Francis (to add an aquired taste) J-Live Clokworx And I suppose that e'll be enough for now. Asta!! |
The latest thing I can think of is a group called Snow Patrol, they sort of sound like Radiohead.
|
^ I really like Run
Asta!! |
I picked up Mos Def's latest album the other day, I haven't been overly impressed with it so far. I thought I'd dig the funk-rock-rap vibe, but I'm wishing it was more like his older flowing hip hop stuff. There are good songs, but he's just not spitting anything like he used to on it... maybe it'll grow on me, I don't know.
Snow Patrol kind of gets on my nerves, but then it might just be the friend who is always pushing them on me. "Run" is a great track, I will agree with that, but I don't like the singer's voice in a lot of the other songs, and the lyrics seem really cheesy and meaningless a lot of the time. The fact that I heard "Spitting Games" a million times in Triple Play 2004 doesn't help things much either. |
isn't the Flaming Lips disc called "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots"? either way, i greatly agree with the recommendation.
i'm not that familiar with Godspeed You Black Emperor (never know where to put that damn exclamation point...), but i really like what i've heard and have been meaning to get more to listen to. |
If you like Godspeed you should really check out Explosions in the Sky. They are along the lines of Godspeed, but I think they are a bit "heavier" at times. They just played in Chicago for the first time in a very long time and I missed the show due to work. Dammit!
...And I have always seen and put the exclamation point after the You. ie Godspeed You! Black Emperor |
I think it comes after Godspeed actually, ala...
Godspeed! You Black Emperor |
A friend of mine saw explosions in the sky live...said it was amazing. Tough luck, Brandon. I'll see your GS!YBE and EITS, and raise you the following:
Indie rock (whatever) magnetic fields the wrens the notwist wilco slowdive mogwai phoenix electronicish highly recomend four tet and m83 !!! (that's a band "tick tick tick") Boards of Canada Amon Tobin ummm I could go on for a long long time... |
Alt/Rock
-Blindside (I recommend them to anybody with ears) -Finger Eleven (who'da thunk it that they'd have a song on the top 40) -Buckcherry -Crossfade (best new band in a long time) -Fear Factory -Hazen Street -Propagandhi -Shinedown -Anthrax -Smash Mouth (Fush Yu Mang (their first album), not anything else) Hip-Hop -Lil' Flip -Juvenile -Jay-Z -Jurassic 5 -Petey Pablo -Young Buc -50 Cent -Public Enemy |
Good Alt. Rock stuff....
Brian Vander Ark Buckcherry (hard alt. rock) The Verve Pipe Michael Tolchner Sister Hazel American Pearl (hard alt. rock) Audiovent Black Crowes Caroline's Spine Collective Soul Cowboy Mouth (they're not country, they're a bad ass rock band) Yea there's a ton more, if u need ne more suggestions just ask. Dan |
Check out OPETH, EMPEROR, SYL, DEVON TOWNSEND BAND, NEVERMORE..
metal. |
Some of my favorites:
Spoon Lambchop Try to download the Slack Album, it's a mix of Jay-z's black album and Pavement's Slanted & Enchanted. I don't like those mash albums all that much but I can't get enough of this one. Slint The Postal Service Built to Spill Just a couple that I could think of off the top of my head. |
My favs:
Wilco Built to Spill Modest Mouse Jack Johnson The Shins Death Cab for Cutie |
The Weakerthans
Interpol (first album) REM Ceasar's Palace (in US The Ceasars) Beck Aphex Twin Daft Punk Kings of Convienance Wilco... that's enough for now oh..le tigre and modest mouse |
Captain Beefheart - anything off of "Safe as Milk"
|
I would have to go with Pink Floyd. I love that band more than sex. I could listen to Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall forever.

Venus Hum - not quite trance, but kickass
The Notwist The Decemberists The Wrens Pinback Pretty Girls Make Graves I'd like to echoe Ted Leo and the Pharmacists as well as Broken Social Scene |
i haven't heard any Venus Hum by themselves, but the version of "I Feel Love" that they do with Blue Man Group on their latest CD and live DVD is pretty kickass. that woman has a great voice...
been meaning to check them out on their own... |
Kings X. They were fairly big in the 80's - early 90's but continue to put out an album of really good stuff every year.
