Whats your favorite artist you're embarassed to admit to?

What artist do you totally get into, but don't want anyone to know about.

I'd have to say 50 cent or Eminem...

Why?

I'm a 30 year old white guy who works for MS...

ibis 10-13-2004 03:16 PM

I like Britney Spears' newer stuff... but you didn't hear that from me :|

mattevil 10-13-2004 03:19 PM

Either Bruce Hornsby or Neil Diamond (Keep in mind I'm 20)

Twizted 10-13-2004 03:21 PM

"Oh Mandy, well you came and you gave without taking. But i sent you away."

Yes, there is no need for shame.

I'm listening to foreigner at this very moment.

FoolThemAll 10-13-2004 04:06 PM

Mariah Carey's old stuff.

Linkin Park also, but I'm not really embarassed about that.

Twizted 10-13-2004 04:07 PM

 AHHHHHHHHHHH.... I am going to have "Mandy" stuck in my head...

bitrunner 10-13-2004 04:10 PM

I'd have to say Metallica..

jalora 10-13-2004 04:11 PM

It's totally okay to like the big singles from the teen idol types; those songs are written by professionals who know how to make a tune stick in your head.

I get a lot of grief for liking wimpy folk music. Stuff like Donovan.

And The Frogs, of course.

No shame in that, unless you mean St. Anger. Even their post-black album stuff can be decent.

"....they call me mellow yellow....quite right..."

Donovan's cool

brandon11983 10-13-2004 07:31 PM

Oh god... here we go

A New Found Glory
Yellowcard
Hilary Duff... just because its Hilary Duff
blink 182
No Doubt

...that's all I care to admit to now.

alansmithee 10-14-2004 12:32 AM

Probably Billy Joel and Elton John. Not because they are bad artists, but because most of the people I discuss music with are mainly into hip-hop.

spindles 10-14-2004 02:18 AM

none of it - I'll admit to any of it. What should I be embarassed about? Kate Bush probably :)

sgn43 10-14-2004 03:03 AM

Justin Timberlake....but what can I say, he's a talented guy and is sexy to boot.

wait...did I type that out loud? dammit!

SirSeymour 10-14-2004 05:38 AM

Randy Travis but then I'm a late 30's guy who as a rule does not listen to country at all.

warrrreagl 10-14-2004 08:32 AM

I listen to a ton of stuff that I know others would be ashamed of, but I never am.

Perry Como
Sandler & Young
Carpenters
Kelly Clarkson
Earl Klugh (my wife damn near ridiculed me out of the car the only time I ever played this for her)
Mannheim Steamroller
John Denver
Dan Fogelberg
ABBA

Arroe 10-14-2004 11:00 AM

New Found Glory probably.

miggity99 10-14-2004 11:08 AM

Avril
Ryan Cabrera

Stupid catchy pop music...

monkeydriven 10-14-2004 12:42 PM

Christina Aguilera

absorbentishe 10-14-2004 12:55 PM

I will never admit to listening to Avril, or Brittney, or Christina. I will not admit to liking Duran Duran, or Cyndi Laper(SP?). I clearly won't admit to hearing Sum 41 more than once.

Man/Amazing 10-14-2004 01:26 PM

Stevie Wonder and The Beatles

Duran Duran is reuiniting for their ONLY east coast appearance...here in atlanta on Dec 2.....Im SO gonna be there lol

pinkie 10-14-2004 04:56 PM

I'm not embarassed to admit to any of the music I like.

K-Wise 10-14-2004 05:36 PM

^ Ditto. I do know what I "should" be embarrased to listen to by most peoples standards of listening. I listen to Barry Manilow, Billy Joel, Paul McCartney I can imagine some people would be like "WTF is this shit?!" You know what I'm talkin bout "Some ones knockin at the door...somebodies ringin the bell...do me a favor...open the door...and let em in" "HAAAAAAANDS ACROSS THE WATER (WATER!)" haha I love that shit. I also got into choral music when I joined choir back when I was 15. Like Phantom Of The Opera :D Shit like that. I'm not ashamed to admit to any of it though. I used to wake up my roomate to Phantom Of The Opera...that and Sugar by System Of A Down. The girl in Pinkie's avatuuuur is cute. Thought I'd bring that up...yeah..

Asta!!

chileno 10-14-2004 06:40 PM

Andrea Bocelli "Romanza" great voice.

Beatlefan58 10-14-2004 07:00 PM

Today, I don't have anyone that fits that catagory. Back when I was in college, though (1975-79), I bought several Olivia Newton-John albums. It made an odd fit in my collection of Zep, Grand Funk and then growing Beatles collection. I told folks it was for when I had ladies over, but I liked 'em. And the last time I played one (about three years ago), I still liked it.

screamincheetah 10-14-2004 09:02 PM

Okay.......man........crap alright, I like some Justin Timberlake songs. Dammit! Why'd I say that.

Now to make yo forget that....the first concert I bought tickets to.............drumroll.......Kenny G and Mochael Bolton!! Ahhhhhhhhyeeaahhhhhhh!! I couldn't have been more excited. Now, I couldn't be more queesy. I'm going to bed.

Willravel 10-14-2004 09:28 PM

It's like birthing children it's so painful to say...
Nancy Sinatra, Ashlee Simpson, the theme from Cheers, Yanni (if you tell ANYONE...), William Shatner, Eddie Murphy, LFO (but only because it's good to make out to), and anything techno, particularly Paul Oakenfold, DJ Tiesto, and Sasha and John Digweed. *opens eyes* Is it over?

ultra_agent9 10-14-2004 11:37 PM

Willravel, Yanni rocks! His cd "Live at the Acropolis" is a fantastic piece of work.

I don't know about bands, but there are songs from certain groups that I might not be up front about. Example? Ah, lets see...Mmm Bop by Hanson. She's All I Ever Had by Ricky Martin. Duran Duran's Planet Earth and Careless Memories. I'll hush up now...

StormBerlin 10-15-2004 12:12 AM

I love Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I'm also a big Beatles and Beach Boys fan. I love oldies in general.

Mephisto2 10-15-2004 12:55 AM

Andy Warhol.

I normally hate "pop art", but some of his stuff is pretty cool. Deep down I prefer Jean Michel Basquiat, but all my friends would give me a hard time of liking "crappy graffiti".

Hang on... wait a sec...

You do mean a real artist, not just some singer? :-)

Mr Mephisto

CityOfAngels 10-15-2004 01:12 AM

I've never heard any of her other songs, but I'm a sucka for Nena's "99 Luft Baloons." It starts off slow and girly, but gets kinda punky later on, but not too punky.

Derwood 10-15-2004 06:01 AM

George Michael. His last 3 albums have had 1 or 2 shitty euro-dance-pop singles, but the rest of the discs are great jazzy songs that really show great musicianship and songwriting.

pan6467 10-15-2004 06:04 AM

KISS (I hate the greed, ego and sell anything attitude of Gene Simmons) but the original band was good.

Other than that my taste in music I"m very open about.

I was two years ahead of you, and I could play some mp3s that would make you cringe.

However, although I'm not sure if this is exactly on-topic, if the radio at work ever plays Wham's "Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go," I find myself humming it the rest of the day. (Insert tip of the hat to Derwood here.)

Until I beat myself around the head and neck to make the music stop.

Harry Cox 10-15-2004 06:10 PM

I could really care less what other people think of my musical tastes, but I would have to say that those that I like that would fall into this category are Huey Lewis and Bryan Adams. I also think Justin Timberlake's "Rock Your Body" is a great song. Very reminiscent of early Jackson 5. Check out Barry Manilow's "One Voice". That song still gives me chills.

sinjien 10-15-2004 10:25 PM

Maybe I'm the alone in this (though i seriously doubt it) but the King of Pop is probably #1 on my list. I am tired of sticking up for him especially when no one but him, the boy, and GOD know the real truth. So I dont talk about Mike anymore. His music still rocks no matter what.

Mr. Munchy 10-16-2004 01:25 AM

Aqua. They almost qualify as old-school now.

Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears I openly admit to liking -- their new stuff at least.

omg.. I'm a guy and I second your liking :)

*shy*....

Scorps 10-16-2004 10:06 AM

I listen to Avril Lavigne some times....

tspikes51 10-18-2004 10:47 AM

I am not ashamed of my musical tastes; which are all-encompassing. Nor should anybody be ashamed of theirs.

Shpoop 10-20-2004 11:04 AM

well its not a particular artist, but i like the RENT soundtrack

that shit is good

ravenradiodj 10-21-2004 01:15 PM

It's gotta be GWAR.

bparker805 10-21-2004 01:33 PM

Im not embarassed, but my friend's are when I admit it:

I am a HUGE Rick Sprinfield fan!

ShaniFaye 10-21-2004 01:36 PM

bparker805...your friends have no taste...there is NO shame in Rick!!!

bparker805 10-21-2004 01:38 PM

only except the fact that he beat up his wife... but its the music that ROCKS!

gar1976 10-28-2004 11:31 AM

Silly songs that are in your playlist.....

But probably shouldn't be? Songs you don't tell your friends you listen to!

Demographics - 28 year old, married father. Which might explain 2 of the 4.

Here's mine -

Britney Spears, Toxic
Dee Lite - Groove is in the Heart (am I the only one who likes this song? And thinks the lead singer is hot?)
John Mayer - Bigger than my body
Sir-Mix-A-Lot - Baby Got Back

Anyone else willing to crack and admit to some of these?

Glory's Sun 10-28-2004 11:48 AM

this would go better in the music forum

plus here's a thread about it already

1slOwCD8 10-28-2004 06:44 PM

Im a little embarassed that i listen to Avril Lavigne, Maroon 5, and Good Charlotte.

Ananas 10-28-2004 09:17 PM

Deep breath....

Rod Stewart.

Love listening to him, can't stand watching him. "Reason to Believe" can make me cry sometimes.

Bionic Monkey 10-28-2004 09:29 PM

The only ones I'm really embarrassed about are Good Charlotte. I know they're talentless hacks and rejects from Hot Topic, but I just can't stop humming their songs in my head.

guy44 10-28-2004 10:11 PM

Garbage. I used to joke that they were the most appropriately monikered band in existence. Now I have all their albums and b-sides. I just can't help it.

high_jinx 10-29-2004 12:29 AM

coheed and cambria... also blind melon. high squeaky singers but such damn good songs!

roachboy 10-29-2004 06:31 AM

ill mitch

http://www.illmitch.com/

i love this guy.
download some of this stuff.
i cant tell if he is joking or not
but i do not really care.
the goofiest hip hop i have ever heard--much funnier than the "zany skit" thing (prince paul, de la..on and on)

o yeah--later, really decadent period tiny tim.
particularly his disco cover of pink floyd's "the wall"

I have to say that a lot of Hip HOp and Rap I can dig on. I like Snoop, 50, DMX guys like that. I have no idea why, but I do. Not really afraid to admit it just don't bring it up that I listen to Doggie Style all the time. But when someone mentions it i'm all over it.

RMMsGirl 10-29-2004 12:56 PM

Britney Spears... and I still have a Spice Girls CD....

skinnymofo 10-29-2004 03:55 PM

Id have to say elton john. i dont usually listen to him in the sense of owning a lot of his music and putting it in, i just enjoy it a lot when its playing somewhere, although i did have a few songs on my computer. As for the collection my mom has plenty of his music so i dont need to get any myself, even though it would be a little awkward seeing as how most record stores where i live are more alternative and rock.

Hirare 10-30-2004 08:14 PM

Dido - White Flag

molloby 10-30-2004 08:30 PM

^ Was pondering saying that. But frankly I'm not embarassed, the girl can sing.

trickyy 10-30-2004 10:53 PM

wow lotsa people embarrased about liking pop music
i must say i like the slick production in certain songs
the beats are just cool, no debate needed

radioguy 10-30-2004 11:37 PM

men without hats! i love the "safety dance" and "pop goes the world"

Most of the stuff I listen to (and it's all over the spectrum), I'm not embarassed about (although crackprogram tells me I SHOULD be :p).... except maybe...for my secret (well, it WAS a secret) thing for Justin Timberlake. And damn it, I really like "Everytime" by Britney Spears.

mused76 10-31-2004 06:02 AM

rod stewart, billy joel, and michael jackson. shhh.. don't tell.

Chemical Smoo 10-31-2004 07:02 PM

Michael Jackson gets a bad rap, I like his music, not him... also Billy Joel and Elton John, some of the pals harp on me for these, but they are greats for a reason people.

Locobot 10-31-2004 11:14 PM

I think its hilarious how most American's generalise all dance music as techno. :D Eminem even once said Moby's work was all techno. And I suppose Moby - Porcelin is techno Eminem?! Jeez!

dbc 11-01-2004 02:59 PM

elton john

flstf 11-05-2004 03:07 AM

Barry Manilow - It's a Miracle
Neil Diamond - Heartlight

I dislike almost every other song by these guys, I have no idea why these two appeal to me.
