Songs to learn?

What songs would you say are easy to learn for a beginner guitarist? Some that have worked so far are Oasis - Wonderwall, Phantom Planet - California (kinda), and Fuel - Bad Day.
Quieter songs with easy guitar bits...any suggestions?

Green Day's "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" is a good start for a beginner, as is "Lightning Crashes" by Live.

How about Outside by Staind? Or It's Been Awhile?

Stairway to Heaven!!!

Metallica and Nirvana songs are really easy
Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd is pretty standard for beginning guitarists
Rolling Stones - Wild Horses

see if you can find some info on the basic blues structure (Em-Am-B7 or whatever). it is used in a lot of music.

Totally not hard. At all. That would be a good one, because you learn basic finger picking, slides, and easy chord changes. Try "Creep" by Stone Temple Pilots if you like to sing and play. If you don't, try "Wonderful Tonight" for learning bends and accompaniment patterns in a basic chord structure. Please, please, stray away from playing too much stuff that is all power chords, like most punk music, although it is easy (not saying that it's bad music either). You will become dependent on not having to switch finger positions, and you will have a tough time weaning yourself from it. Thats all I played for my first two years of playing guitar, and my development has been extremely stunted by it.

Go With The Flow - Queens of the Stone Age
Rythm first, then the lead part.

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely look into Stairway. I have Creep, but never considered it. Go With the Flow would be interesting. Thanks!

When I was first learning guitar, we were learning how to play "Free Falling" .... seemed pretty doable. Pretty much anything with repetitive chords that are easy to switch between is gonna be helpful.

You could also try any Nirvana stuff. You don't have be a great guitarist or vocalist to pull that off. Most of the songs sound pretty good on acoustic as well.

Counting Crows - "Round Here" (acoustic version from VH1's Storytellers)
Counting Crows - "Mr. Jones"
Jimmy Eat World - "No Sensitivity"
Jimmy Eat World - "Bleed American"
Foo Fighters - "Everlong"
Green Day - "When I Come Around"
Pearl Jam - "Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town"
Stone Temple Pilots - "Art School Girl"

All fun, easy songs to play. I managed to play them, and I totally suck.

Karma Police by Radiohead
House of the Rising Sun by The Animals

Runaround by Blues Traveller is four chords (G-C-Am-D) repeated over and over.
Over the Hills and Far Away sounds tricky but isn't. Same with Funk #49 (James Gang).
