I love audioslave, but i liked Rocha's voice better. Oh well.

While sometimes I did not agree with Zack's lyrics... I certainly liked the group much better than I do now.
They've simply lost the edge that made them different. They will never be the same again. |

Bring em back alive - best song on the album?
|
The best part of "Cochise" is the beginning, that slow grinding stuff. Then it kicks into a pretty conventional Big Rock song and it gets a lot less interesting.
I liked Soundgarden a lot. I always thought that RATM were pretty weak, actually. /ducks for cover Though one time I saw Zach come out and rap over "Cholly" at a Fishbone show, which was pretty cool. Good to see that the guy had a sense of humor. |

it's easy....throw a rage disc on and hey.....you're listenin' to rage. throw a temple of the dog, soundgarden in.......that's what you hear. pop in an audioslave....and there you have it. no need to mix it all up.they are all seperate bands.take them for what they are. |
After spending a lot of time listening to audioslave I thought I would clarify my point a little bit.
I had 9 hour round trip this weekend so when I was making CDs to listen to I decided to throw an audioslave one in their. I figured I owed them an extended listen. After listening to the CD a few times and a some of the songs several times, I have come to this conclusion: If I think of them as what's left of Rage I hate them. If they are trying to emulate Rage then they are awful. However, the less I think of them as Rage the more I appreciate it. If I think of them as a totally separate band with no ties to Rage then I actually enjoyed the album and compared to a lot of crap out there it is somewhat original. It is different music though. So I guess I'm more in line with what flyman thinks now. To those people who still hate them, I'm not saying you'll like them but give it a shot with no thoughts of the old Rage in your head and see what you think. |
Audioslave is much more versitile then RATM was. Chris Cornell can do alot more with his voice, and i think he has much better ideas then Zach does. While Zach was a political activist, it clouded his mind so he could only think and write about that kind of stuff, chris cornell throws in style and a broader genre to the mix. On the CD they go from Hardcore Rock (rageinspired) stuff, to power ballads(The last remaining light) to mellow jazz(getaway car) not nessesarily in that order. but i think that the members of rage have grown...they've stepped out of adolescence and are showing the musicianship they've had all along but chose not to go full out with.

imo, Rage was a far better band than Audioslave.
the difference is Zach. imo, he´s FAR better than Cornell. |
how can you even compare them? definitely not the same style of music.
and AUDIOSLAVE IS *NOT* RAGE, DIFFERENT FUCKING BAND yes, even if they're all there except zach, they can form a different band, if they want. if it was rage with a new singer, they'd probably keep the name "rage against the machine" or maybe "the artists formerly known as rage against the machine but we're still doing the same stuff just with a different front man" or something stupid like that |
