Greatest Rock Songs of All Time
What would you say is the greatest rock song of all time? Just list 1 song, and no repeats. We'll make a list of what songs we consider great. I want to make a CD so in the end we can narrow it down to the 20 greatest rock songs of all time.
I'll start: Black Dog - Led Zeppelin |
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama
|
The Beatles- Revolution
|
Derek & the Dominoes - Layla
|
Bohemian Rhapsody -- Queen
|
I would say "Stairway to Heaven" (such a great song that it is now a cliche) but Led Zeppelin was already mentioned. If you don't want duplicates of bands, how about...
Bob Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone." |
The Who - Baba O'Riley
|
"Hell's Bells" AC/DC
|
Bruce Springsteen - having trouble picking just one song.. Going with... Because the Night
|
Duplicate bands I think are allowed, duplicate songs are not allowed... so you should be able to pick more than one song by a band... Right?
|
Rush - Spirit of Radio

I second this choice. |
Dead or Alive Bon Jovi (actually thats not really my pick, but I dont know that Brandy by Looking glass classifys and rock  )
|
duplicate bands are allowed. yes, i know, so many good zeppelin tunes... :p
|
Celluloid Heroes or Apeman by the KINKS..... very hard decision for me.
Edited..... Apeman |
the eagles - hotel california
|
Roadhouse Blues by The Doors
|
Ohhh, too many great Iron Maiden songs.
The Number of the Beast - Iron Maiden Up the Irons! |
Bruce - Thunder road
|
stooges: funhouse
|
Guns & Roses - November Rain
Asta!! |
following the vote for Guns N Roses: Paradise City: Guns N Roses
|
Elvis Costello - Radio Radio
|
Joe Cocker - With a Little Help From My Friends.
Or Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade of Pale. If you don't agree with me on song two, may Douglas Adams rise from his grave and kill you all. |
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
|
There are so many so ill just throw something out.
U2 - Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me |
Pearl Jam - Rear View Mirror
|
Blue Oyster Cult - (Don't Fear) The Reaper
(Even if it really could use more cowbell) And seconds to the following - 1. Stairway to Heaven, 2. Revolution, 3. Layla, 4. Baba O'Reilly, 5. Roadhouse Blues, 6. Thunder Road, 7. Bohemian Rhapsody. 8. Comfortably Numb. Each of these is most definitely in the top 100 of all time, probably in the top 20. That's half your disc right there. |
Damn, so many good one already mentioned.
I'll skip the obvious choice for me and say Journey - Don't Stop Believin' |
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)
This is a tough one. There are a ton of really good songs out there... quite a few of my favorites have already been mentioned. A few of my favorites are probably more considered blues than rock. That said - I'm going to go ahead and say that Hendrix's "Voodoo Chile" is the best rock song of all time not already mentioned. |
Van Halen - You Really Got Me Now
|
Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
but, since that's already been mentioned, let me throw another one into the ring. Iron Butterfly - Inna gadda da vida |
Jethro Tull - Thick as a Brick
*bows* All Hail Ian Anderson! |
Oh god, what to choose..
Rush, Red Barchetta |

The Unforgiven my Metallica...
|
The Beatles - A Day in the Life
|
Dammit, so hard....
Um... Something a little different: The Kingsmen: Louie Louie. |
I will third Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb
|
The Clash - Should I Stay or Should I Go
Simply because my favorite Zep and Floyd songs are already listed |

Ditto on every Bruce song mentioned already. My admission: Queen & Bowie "Under Pressure." (May Vanilla Ice rot and suffer in every circle of Hell!!!!!)
|
obviously a hard decision, but i'll go with
Creedence Clearwater Revival - Fortunate Son |
Led Zeppelin - Rock and Roll
Gah, one song... Check this out: Top 107 http://www.q107.com/station/top107_2004.cfm |
Pink Floyd are on that list 7 times
1. Comfortably Numb 2. Money 3. Another Brick In The Wall Pt. 2 4. Wish You Were Here 5. Time 6. Us And Them 7. Shine On You Crazy Diamond Pts. I-V Which if I tallied them up right is about the same as Led Zepplin both appear more times in the list than any other band on there. In short they are probably the 2 best bands of all time (Although I REALLY love Queen and Yes). And thats cause I could probably think of at least 3 more Floyd songs that are probably better than some of the other songs that made the list. And of course Zepplin has more. I would have liked to have seen more Queen, Yes, and Rush on this list though. And no Bad Company???? C'mon one of THE best classic rock bands ever! :) The Supertramp songs they picked probably aren't even their best songs for one..they seemed to only pick the popular ones. I mean Waiting So Long, Don't Leave Me Now, Crazy basically the Famous Last Words... album has some really great stuff from them. I wouldn't really classify U2 with Classic rock either even though they have been around for a while. No Alman Brothers, Stevie Ray Vaughn, ONE Aerosmith song (and it's Sweet Emotions?), No Journey, if they put Neil Young then why not America? No Sammy Hagar.....I mean I don't think I could EVER come up with a list for myself. Just way too much good stuff out there. Asta!! |
