The Polyphonic Spree
Has anyone heard of these guys? My friends introduced me to the musical likings of these guys last night and I must say I quite like them. According to my friends they're a band of like 25 guys, and most of them sing in all the songs. They are really upbeat and energetic, and a pretty original sound.

The person who started the whole thing originally was the singer for The Tripping Daisys (you know the I've got a girlfriend... song). They seem pretty cultish to me. Heh.

tripping daisy were cool.
polyphonic spree are.... frightening. |
I don't quite understand them. Twenty five to twenty seven people dressed in robes singing "happy" music. It's a FAR stretch from Tripping Daisy. Tim Delaughter is a bad ass. He's had great success with two different bands in two different genres. Btw, The Spree was in the Rolling Stones Mag not too long ago. Maybe they will grow on me, who knows.

I actually know one of the guys in this group - the french horn player. Based on knowing him, nothing these guys do could ever surprise me.

Yeah I heard in concert they all come out in robes and stuff, I like wierd stuff like that though :)
|
Yeah they are something else. The radio station I listen to here in OZ, have been playing them for a while.

that was my first thought about them...."25 guys in robs singing happy songs like fanatics" really scares me...the first time I heard of them I was totally annoyed about those happy-forever-bastards-spreading-love-all-around...I was hoping for a massive suicide in a sect style. Being into bands like radiohead, sigur-rós, mogwai and GY!BE, starting to like TPS make me feel somehow "weak"...but then I was captivated by the symphonic pop style of "suitcase calling" (from the second album "together we are heavy")...and I realized that maybe happiness is not that bad ;) so give them a try, at least their second album...(the only one i've heard) |
