Best Filesharing / P2P Program?
I've heard a lot of different programs that people use for downloading songs and such, which makes me come to wonder which is the best one out there? I personally use Kazaa Lite++ / Soulseek (even though it's not all that great I think) and I just downloaded WinMX the other day and not sure what exactly to think of it yet. Anyway, back to the point :P
What do all of YOU use? And what's the ups and downs of it? Would you recommend it for other people? |
Best...Period....WinMX
|
I was using Kazaa Lite for a long time but it's suddenly stopped working on me. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it, but no dice.
Probably will start using WinMX again. |
I use soulseek mainly because i tend to download full albums instead of individual songs, and soulseek is very good for that. However, the server does tend to go down a lot, though it's been better recently.
I use bittorrent a lot as well. The speeds are incredible sometimes, and it's great for huge files. But for older things, it's pretty impossible. For recently released stuff though, it's pretty slick. |
Found WinMX really slow on dial up. LimeWire just stopped working so now believe it or not I'm on Morpheus. Still slow but the thing has a mind of its own. I look into my files and see tunes of tunes just there. Some people might flip but I don't mind. Its exposed me to some different stuff. Still don't know how that is happening.

Soulseek: Good for album downloading - the selection is good but the trick to getting anything you're looking for is sharing what you have with other people. People have some pretty extensive lists that won't come up just from searching...get to know people who like what you listen to and it's great.
MIRC: I use it for leaked albums, movies, etc. It's complicated but the most effective when looking for obscure/new/newly leaked albums. KaZaalite k++: I use it only as a last resort or if I know what I'm downloading is really popular. With the simultaneous downloads you can get some pretty nice speeds but there's lots of scratched/incomplete/and anti piracy tracks on KaZaa. If it won't take forever I'm always willing to share whatever I have. If you're into black/death metal, grind/emocore...Skafe@aol.com |
I use eMule for the whole album. WinMx for single songs.
|
I only rarely download single songs, I'm using bittorrent for all albums.
|
winmx.....no problems at all
|
I'm been trying to use WinMX lately, no matter what i do i can't see to get ANYTHING to download? :(!!

Bit Torrent
and Bearshare |
I keep hearing that BT is so great but I can never find BT links. How do you go about searching for BT content?
|
http://www.lickmytaint.com has a good listing for BT sites. You can't beat soulseek in my opinion.
|
the most popular bt site is probably www.suprnova.org
there are other ones out there for sure, but nearly everything eventually ends up at suprnova, and with tons of others downloading |
MyNapster
Bit Torrent (trying this out for a bit) Used to go on IRC but need to reinstall my IRC and scripts again. |

I usually use Kazaa Lite. There are a lot of fakes, but if the song is common enough ,you can find an unadulterated version fairly easily. Edonkey/Emule has a much higher rate of non-RIAAized songs, but speed is something to be desired.
|
Soulseek is my way of getting music.
|
Don't ask me... I'm still trading freakin' cassettes, fer the love of christ.
|
Try looking at slyck.com. They have lots of info about all sorts of filesharing software.
For me, its all about usenet. |
I use Soul Seek mostly but have tried WinMX and Ares
|
Soulseek because I can download full albums
|
DC++
everything you could ever need if you are willing to look around a little |
soulseek they have all most any cd im looking for.
But of course i all ready own them... but my friend K A Zaa has alot too. |
yep www.suprnova.org has everything. BT i think is the best because of the speed with which it downloads. wihtout firewall, i hit 80kb/sec and somteims beyond 100.. love BT
|
I love BitTorrent but sites like suprnova dont seem to have a very extensive collection of music yet. Also about 90% of the multi-disc torrents (2 disc albums, full discographies, box sets) that Ive gotten are messed up in some way, missing tracks, incorrectly named, out of order, etc.
Thanks to this thread Ive started using SoulSeek and I dont know how I lived with out it. It has everything Ive searched for and by browsing other people's shares Ive discovered great music I wouldn't have found otherwise. I highly recommend it. |
Shareaza.
|
/me huggles her soulseek :)
Sure, I've got some incomplete downloads and que's can suck... but with some patience and digging around, it's worth it. Great for taking care of some 'music collection obsessions'. ;) |
Well I'm glad those who use Soulseek are,....getting to use it. Sucks for me on dial up and is the worst file sharer I've used. Uninstalled it. 10 days nothing. Works for a bit then doesn't keep working. Reboot it 5000times and nothing.
|
WinMX, and SoulSeek for harder to find tunes.
|
DC++ if you know good hubs. I've tried some other progs (WinMX, Soulseek, Kazaa, eDonkey etc.) but somehow their speed and interface is not even close to DC++.
|
i been using iswipe. it searches gnutella, fast track, edonkey and napster. only mac though. free at http://www.hillmanminx.net/iswipe/
|
I think the point is that there isn't one "best" program. I use DC++, Bit Torrent, IRC, and newsgroups. Bit Torrent, IRC, and newsgroups really them lend themselves to a get-it-while-it's-hot mentality. For Bit Torrent this can be especially good and bad. If there is a very popular file it will spread like wildfire instead of bogging down a single peer; however, once a file is no longer popular, you'll be hard to pressed to find someone seeding a complete version of it. I use DC++ mostly for singles (among other things) when I'm not concerned about the file integrity that is possible with the hashing of Bit Torrent or .sfv files mostly found on IRC and newsgroups.
Slyck's has comprehensive guides of most file sharing methods. |
