The B-52's Live
I saw the performance last night, and I was really impressed. It was a great show, and they covered a lot of my deeper favorites like "Give me Back My Man" and "Dance This Mess Around", as well as the obligatory "Rock Lobster" "Planet Claire", "Private Idaho" and "Love Shack". The crowd was very much into the performance, almost everyone danced.
From their website, "B-52's have been touring with a larger band, which consists of Pat Irwin on keyboards, Sara Lee on bass and Zachary Alford on drums. With this addition, the B-52's have secured their reputation with a live show that's as exciting and fun as the music itself." Absolutely. Dueling bass players give extra energy to the live music. My only concern was with the clearly diminished vocal power of Cindy Wilson. She has the same range, but at times her voice seemed forced and weak. The warm up band was Mosquito, very colorful and perfectly in keeping with the retro alternative themed night. They performed two songs I actually recognized and liked, and will likely look for their music now. It is definitely a show to see. Five pineapples. |

I see 'em Thurs. night - more for my girlfriend than me, but good to know it's a good show.

Nice review! Thanks for posting. Sara Lee is great - I remember when she was touring/recording with Indigo Girls - and Zach Alford is fantastic too (he did some great work on Billy Joel's last studio record way back when).
