new broken social scene?

i must say, it hasn't fully grown on me.
there was only one song that grabbed my attention as much as any song off of "you forgot it in people" ["7/4 shoreline"].

other than that... the only other two songs that stuck out for me were "handjobs for the holidays" and "ibi dreams of pavement".

overall, i find it to be pretty sub-par. but then again, they wouldve had to have pulled of some absoulutely AMAZING work to top "you forgot it in people".

overall, not a bad cd. without any expectations i had for it, i still enjoy it.
but by far not as good as "you forgot it in people".
songs like "alomst crimes", "stars and sons", "cause = time", "anthems for a seventeen year old girl", "pacific theme", "pitter patter goes my heart" and "looks just like the sun" [aka: the 99% of the cd!] are all mind-blowingly excellent, and truly hard to top.

any comments?

i dont think this cd is worthy of being completely snubbed as far as my collection goes. but, like i said... i was expecting better.

[ps> has anyone seen them live? theyre coming to a venue close to where i live, but i doubt ill be able to make it. a recent feist concert cost alot more than expected...
how are they live?]

i'm listening to it right now. seems like this is about the 4th spin i've given it. i have generally the same reaction as you do...i can't quite get into it as much as i'd hoped. maybe they'd be a fun show, but i'm unfamiliar with their other stuff.

i really like the new animal collective, though. i've had it for about a month now, only a bit longer than BSS, but i liked it right away.

The new album is indeed not as awesome as "You Forgot It In People". As for seeing them live, I caught their show in Montreal and it was one of the best concerts ever. One guy was going up and down the queue outside begging people for a ticket and there was no scalper in sight (fans got to tickets before scalpers). When the guy that was supposed to see the show with me and my friend didn't show up, we sold the remaining tic to the desperate guy. I never saw such blissful happiness wash over someone's face like I did that day, and probably never will again. BSC's show was pure genious. The whole band has great energy and loves to get the crowd involved.

apostle of hustle magically showed up and played at the feist concert i saw in calgary.
i almost wet myself when they came onstage and just, you know.. played in jason collets/feist's band.
it basically teased me because there is a good chance i wont be able to make the broken social scene concert in november.
but im doing my damndest to go.
and im even more determined after reading your post Bob Bitter!

I'm with everyone on the new album..... nothing too amazing. Their live show is quite fantastic. I don't know that i'd want to see them in too large a venue, might lose some of their effect. I saw them in a small club in Boston at a club that holds about 120 people, before you forgot it in people got big... I happened to get lucky that a friend had heard of them and covinced me to go. That show was amazing. I've seen them once since as well, in a slightly larger venue, and Stars opened up, which made that show awesome. Anyways, if you haven't seen them, go, but if they come back through and play a small venue, Definitely go.
