What?... Ears?

Does anyone use ear protection when they jam,go to clubs etc..I have custom plugs and use them during gigs and even when going to shows.A buddy of mine thought I was nuts cuz I wore them during a Styx concert. Well, it's gonna be kind of hard making a living as a musician if you can't fucking hear anything.

Protect your ears.Once their done, their done.

absolutely. i am the biggest spokesperson for hearing protection. people hate me for it...but i don't fucking care.

I have a 30% loss in higher frequencies. Its a bitch to converse in a crowd. Too many rock concerts and a few too many car races have taken those sounds away for good. Once damaged, there is no repair. I notice 'missing' sounds when I listen to favorite songs on CD. High fidelity doesn't mean shit when your ears can't tell the difference between a third generation cassette recording and a CD. I even wear earplugs when I mow the yard, just so I don't inflict more damage.

I use cotton as I don't have custom made ear plugs and it's just more comfortable. Between motorcycles, a car with essentially an open exhaust, and seeing every metal band that came through town in the 80's and 90's, I have what I consider a noticable loss of hearing. Somewhere between the Miracle Ears commercials and the adults in Charlie Brown. Standing in the front, a foot from the speakers, didn't help either.

Sometimes it really is just too loud. (It's true what they say about getting old.) I can hear it better with ear plugs than without.

I use those yellow basic 'ear' muffs. The orange ones are so big they reach my brain. But in rehearsals I like to really hear what the fook I'm doin' , so I use personal monitoring and ehmmm... turn it so loud it beats the noise coming through those mini-earplugs... So I think rehearsing and on stage I suffer higher noise levels as I would without anything in my ears. And I hate myself for making myself deaf, but haven't found a solution yet. Custom made stuff is on my shopping list as well as OM 5 Mic of Audix, to reduce stage noise.. And I know I'm in for a lecture next time I'll have my hearing checked. Auutss!!

When I worked for the Army, I had to have a physical type exam once, and they found I was starting to get a bit of hearing loss in the upper frequencies. So they gave me a set of official Army issue earplugs, which I still wear to almost every concert I go to now. The killer is that for a long time I listened to headphones, really pretty loud, and that's probably worse than the occasional concert.

I used ear protection at a concert once. It was the end of endfest in bremerton a few years ago, and kid rock closed the show. After hearing him steal guitar riffs from a ton of people, I went to the back of the bowl, used a blanket, put in my plugs and took a nap, waited for the rest of my carpool to find me.

I use plugs all of the time. I know I've lost a bit of my hearing already and I don;t want to lose any more. It's especially noticeable to me in my right ear.

I use the basic foam plugs we have in dispensers on the production floor at work. It kinda sucks that they are flourescent swirly colors, but they do the job. Sometimes I get self-conscious about wearing some bright orange and green earplugs, but I guess it beats the alternative.

Yes, i like to make absolutely certain that I don't hear anything whenever I go to a concert

At rehearsal, when I remember to, I use those cheap foamy sponge ones, y'know, you pinch & roll 'em between your fingers, then let them expand in your ear?
But I found that they cut too much sound out, so I've sliced them in half. Works better for me at any rate.

Atomic Pinkie 05-19-2003 05:25 AM

hehehe, i use those things when shooting

I can't really tell if my ears are going bad or if i just have too much ear wax :(

I drive with the windows down and it seems to cause excess amounts for some reason.
