Fun Music
While driving home from work today, I noticed something: in general, the music I listen to I listen to for the sake of musical integrity alone. Basically, it's kind of boring for me and anyone else in my car for background music. Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Godspeed, Tool, King Crimson, etc are not exactly great for driving around with your friends. Hell, half of the time we get to where we're going before a song is over. I'm looking for some *fun* music that I can listen to when I'm going out with my friends or whathaveyou.
What would you recommend? |
Gravy Train!!! You have to have a very open mind about sexuality but they're very fun to dance to.
Stereo Total- Some really good dance pop Exploding Hearts- Great fun dance rock/punk |
How about some George Clinton and the Parliament Funkadelic?
CCR? |
Mod Flanders Conspiracy.
They're a very quirky but talented band that'll make you laugh until it hurts and weep with emotion all in the same song. They're more than capable of blending so many different styles (emo, hardcore, death) with guitar effects that'll catch your attention and make it all sound like solid and fun music. www.modflandersconspiracy.com You can pm me or im me on AIM and I'll send you as many tracks as you'd like. I also highly recommend "Irony Is A Dead Scene" by The Dillinger Escape Plan. You can never go wrong with Mike Patton. |
In Flames. 97.367% of their stuff is uber happy. Examples: Reroute to Remain, Embody the Invisible, Swim, Episode 666.
When ever I'm down I just pop in some In Flames. :) |
Ska music is great fun music for driving. The upbeat tempo is good, but it makes you want to drive faster.

The Dismemberment Plan Is Terrified.
Wild, wacky, nonsensical fun mixed with wild, wacky, semi-sensical fun. The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow Fun, incredibly catchy, sunny pop-rock somewhat in the vein of the Beach Boys (though not as much as their debut album). It's solidly good, but also something you can listen to for pure hook-filled enjoyment. |
The Reverend Horton Heat. It's fun, in a drunken cowboy kinda way.
|
Yellowcard is always pretty upbeat and if it isn't, you've gotta love those pop punk licks ;)
Mighty Mighty Bosstones earlier stuff is really up beat and swingtastic. Dashboard Confessional is good when you need a smile or a frown. Reel Big Fish and Me first and the gimme gimmes always give me a laugh. |
The B-52s - especially their first album and Cosmic Thing.
|
I gotta agree with The Dismemberment Plan.
Also: Ween They Might Be Giants Mindless Self Indulgence The Bloodhound Gang They're all fun bands. |

I second what rockzilla said, the reverend is great for driving to and also any psychobilly or rockabilly music is fun to listen to while driving. I'd also recommend you make your own driving mixes, that way you can get a nice assortment of different types of music.
|
I agree on the ska/psychobilly/rockabilly thing, but would add the self titled CD by Tenacious D, if you're into rockin' tunes and stuff that makes you laugh. They also make great driving music.
You could also check out anything by King Missile for just completely over the top absurd stuff. |
Pick up something from Frank Zappa. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll keep playing it.

Any kind of "happy" house music (yes, that's actually the name of a genre of electronic music derived from house) is fun in the car. The lyrics are so idiotic, you don't have to think about it - so you can have a conversation while it's playing. |
Check out Bad Acid trip. I went out and bought their 'Lynch the Weirdo' CD after seeing them live (they put on a great show). The songs are all short and simple (often it's hard to tell where one ends and the next begins), but it's great fun.

what about like, bloodhound gang. thats a fun(ny) band.
(edit) ...just noticed that brinkn1 mentioned them above. still... :] good stuff. |
