music as therapy

I've been going through some relationship issues. I can wear headphones at work, and wanted to listen to something that would make me feel better about the situation. I ended up choosing to listen to the Janis Joplin/Big Brother and the Holding Company version of the song "Ball & Chain."

I was a bit stressed before listening to this, but after listening to it 3 times in a row (it is a ten minute song about lost love and despair) I felt cleansed. Not to sound corny, but it seemed as Janis was telling me what my heart was telling me, like she could relate.

So, what songs do you listen to to get you through life's negative emotions? Another example: when you are pissed at your job: Dead Kennedy's version of "Take This Job and Shove It.

(I'm not sure if this has been done before, I have no idea what words to use to search for a topic like this.)

Most of the music i listen to is in some way therapeutic..

a few favorites for "getting through lifes negative emotions"

Cowboy Junkies: "To love is to bury"
This one helps me understand my parents troubled relationship a bit better.

Vaughan Williams: 6th Symphony
This one is for the times when i want the world to selfdestruct ..

Talk Talk: Spirit of Eden (entire record)
This is for when i want out of the "world selfdestruction mode"
Beautiful and sad music that somehow leaves you uplifted at the end.

These are only a few out of a vast collection of "therapeutic" music i listen to.

oh...here is a weird one:

(Louis Armstrong: What a Wonderful World
This one was undoubtedly intended to be an uplifting piece...but it has the excact opposite effect on me. It makes me think of all the poor souls on this planet who do not have a "Wonderful World". Dont know how i picked up those bad associations with this song)
